A Complex Variation of the Parietal and Visceral Branches of the Abdominal Aorta International Journal of Morphology

Variations in the branches of the abdominal aorta were determined during a routine abdominal region dissection of a 70-year-old male cadaver. Left gastric artery arose as the first root from antero-lateral of aorta. Coeliacomesenteric trunk occurred as a thick root. After 29.9mm, coeliacomesenteric trunk bifurcated as coeliac trunk and superior mesenteric artery. Coeliac trunk bifurcated as splenic artery and common hepatic artery. These multiple variations which change the normal anatomic structure of the abdominal aorta have to be kept in mind by surgeons, radiologists and anatomists.

Bilateral Origin of the Testicular Arteries from the Lower Polar Accessory Renal Arteries International Journal of Morphology

The gonadal arteries (testicular or ovarian arteries) emerge normally from the lateral aspect of the abdominal aorta, a little inferior to the renal arteries. Several other sites of origin of these arteries have been recorded with the renal and accessory renal arteries being the most common. In the present case report, the testicular arteries originated from the lower polar accessory renal arteries in both sides. The testicular veins followed had the usual origin and course, while an accessory renal vein was observed only in the right side. These anomalies were combined with an abnormal left ureter exiting from the lower pole of the kidney. The prevalence of the aneurysm, tortuosity, and kinking of abdominal aorta and iliac arteries is important for primary consideration in operative planning. The present study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence of abnormality of abdominal aorta and iliac arteries and demonstrate the patterns of kinking external iliac arteries in Thai cadavers. Eighty-five Thai embalmed cadavers (58 males and 27 females) were observed and measured the diameter of abdominal aorta and iliac arteries using a vernier caliper for assessment of aortic aneurysm (AAA).
