First record of dorsal and anal fin deformities in blue tang Acanthurus coeruleus (Acanthuridae, Actinopterygii) from northeastern Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
BRITO,CAMILA CRISTINA P. DE; ARAÚJO,JÚLIO L.; MÁRQUEZ-VELÁSQUEZ,VIVIANA; SILVA,MARIANNA B. DA; ROSA,RICARDO S..
Abstract: Dorsal and anal fin deformities in the blue tang Acanthurus coeruleus are reported for the first time from northeastern Brazil, based on observations during research dives at an artificial reef. Possible causative factors are discussed.

New records of spirurid nematodes (Nematoda, Spirurida, Guyanemidae, Philometridae & Cystidicolidae) from marine fishes off New Caledonia, with redescriptions of two species and erection of Ichthyofilaroides n. gen. ArchiMer
Moravec, František; Justine, Jean-lou.
Recent examinations of spirurid nematodes (Spirurida) from deep-sea or coral reef marine fishes off New Caledonia, collected in the years 2006–2009, revealed the presence of the following five species: Ichthyofilaroides novaecaledoniensis (Moravec et Justine, 2009) n. gen., n. comb. (transferred from Ichthyofilaria Yamaguti, 1935) (females) (Guyanemidae) from the deep-sea fish Hoplichthys citrinus (Hoplichthyidae, Scorpaeniformes), Philometra sp. (male fourth-stage larva and mature female) (Philometridae) from Epinephelus maculatus (Serranidae, Perciformes), Ascarophis (Dentiascarophis) adioryx Machida, 1981 (female) (Cystidicolidae) from Sargocentron spiniferum (Holocentridae, Beryciformes), Ascarophis (Ascarophis) nasonis Machida, 1981 (males and...

The Miocene fish Marosichthys, a putative tetraodontiform, actually a perciform surgeon fish (Acanthuridae) related to the recent Naso Naturalis
Tyler, James C..
Marosichthys huismani (de Beaufort, 1926), a fish from the Miocene of the Celebes, was described in the tripod fish family Triacanthidae, Tetraodontiformes. It is shown here to be a valid genus of the surgeon fish family Acanthuridae, Perciformes, and closely related to the Recent genus Naso. Marosichthys is unique among all acanthurids in having the ventral shafts of the first two basal pterygiophores of the spiny dorsal fin in the preneural space (versus only one in front of the first neural spine) and no vacant interneural spaces (versus the third space vacant).
Tipo: Article / Letter to the editor Palavras-chave: Surgeon fishes; Acanthuridae; Marosichthys; Miocene; Triacanthidae.

A honeymoon in Brazil: the spawning behavior of an exotic reef fish in the western south Atlantic Neotropical Ichthyology
Luiz,Osmar J; Sazima,Ivan; Waib,Luis F; Ferreira,Carlos Eduardo L.
The reproductive strategies of surgeonfishes of the genus Acanthurus are well known for all Atlantic species except the Monrovia doctorfish, Acanthurus monroviae, an eastern Atlantic surgeonfish whose biology remains largely unknown. We provide here the first account on the spawning behavior of A. monroviae, an exotic fish on rocky reefs of southeastern Brazilian coast.
Tipo: Info:eu-repo/semantics/report Palavras-chave: Acanthurus monroviae; Acanthuridae; Reproduction; Laje de Santos; Rocky reef.
