Recuperation of the high germinability condition of papaya seed through priming technology and bioregulators Agrociencia
Bautista-Calles,Francisco; Carrillo-Castañeda,Guillermo; Villegas-Monter,Ángel.
Rapid loss of seed viability of Carica papaya L. (papaya) and its high commercial price impairs the availability of high quality seed to growers. Certified papaya seed cv. Maradol was utilized to define practical methodologies to restore the seed germination performance. Seed was submitted to: 1) hydropriming: 4 d of hydropriming rose seed germination up to 84%, 250% more than the untreated seeds; however, the seedlings generated from untreated seeds accumulated more biomass than the other treatments; 2) chemopriming: seeds treated 4 d in a 10-5 M calcium chloride solution germinated 262% more than did the untreated seeds and in addition, the seedlings generated from treated seeds accumulated more biomass than the control seedlings. When seeds were treated...

Effect of acetylsalicylic acid on total myenteric neurons in mice experimentally infected with Trypanosoma cruzi Anais da ABC (AABC)

Abstract: We investigated the effects of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) on the total myenteric neuronal population in the descending colon in Trypanosoma cruzi-infected mice. Thirty-five male Swiss mice, 60 days old, were divided into a control group (C group), control group treated with ASA (CA group), infected group (I group), and infected group treated with ASA (IA group). A total of 1300 trypomastigotes of the Y strain of T. cruzi were intraperitoneally inoculated in the IA and I groups. The CA and IA groups were treated with ASA intraperitoneally. At 75 days post-infection (dpi), all of the animals were sacrificed. Neurons in the colon were stained with Giemsa, quantified, and measured. No difference in the course of infection was observed between the IA...

Sex-dependent differences in the activities of acetylsalicylic acid-esterases in mouse kidneys BJMBR
Benedito,M.A.C..
Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), the most used drug worldwide, is hydrolyzed to salicylic acid and acetate by esterases present in tissues of several species including humans. Sex differences in drug metabolism by rodent liver are documented in the literature. In this paper we report a difference in the activities of the esterases (ASA-esterase I and II) in the kidneys of male and female mice. In this species there is no difference between males and females in liver ASA-esterases (ASA-esterase I: males 38.5 ± 7.9 (N = 5) and females 31.6 ± 7.6 (N = 5) nmol of salicylic acid formed min-1 mg protein-1, P>0.05; ASA-esterase II: males 77.3 ± 17.4 (N = 5) and females 61.4 ± 15.1 (N = 5) nmol of salicylic acid formed min-1 mg protein-1, P>0.05)....
