Quality of poultry litter submitted to different treatments in five consecutive flocks R. Bras. Zootec.
Loch,Fernando Carlos; Oliveira,Maria Cristina de; Silva,Dionatan da; Gonçalves,Bruno Nunes; Faria,Bruno Fernandes de; Menezes,June Faria Scherrer.
It was evaluated the effects of poultry litter treatment on moisture content, pH, density and volatilized ammonia for five consecutive flocks of broiler chicken breeding. It was used 640 birds per flock as a complete randomized design with eight treatments and four replicates. The treatments were the following: 1 non-treated litter; 2 litter submitted to in-house composting; 3 litter treated with aluminum sulfate; 4 litter submitted to gypsum; 5 litter treated with quicklime; 6 litter treated with dolomitic limestone; 7 litter treated with zeolite and 8 litter treated with charcoal. Chopped elephant-grass hay was used as poultry litter in all flocks. Fermentation in the shed increased moisture content of the litters in the second and first flocks on 21 and...

Evaluation of growth performance and gastro-intestinal parameters on the response of weaned piglets to dietary organic acids Anais da ABC (AABC)
GRECCO,HENRIQUE A.T.; AMORIM,ALESSANDRO B.; SALEH,MAYRA A.D.; TSE,MARCOS L.P.; TELLES,FILIPE G.; MIASSI,GABRIELA M.; PIMENTA,GUILHERME M.; BERTO,DIRLEI A..
ABSTRACT Two experiments (E) were carried out to evaluate the effects of fumaric acid and an acidifier blend [composed by calcium formate, calcium lactate and medium-chain fatty acids (capric and caprylic)] in piglet diets containing colistin (40 ppm) or halquinol (120 ppm) on performance, diarrhea incidence (E1), organs relative weight, pH values, intestinal morphometry and microbiota (E2). In E1, 192 and E2, 24 piglets weaned at 21-day-old were randomly assigned to blocks with 2x2 factorial arrangement of treatments [absence or presence of fumaric acid x absence or presence of acidifier blend], six replicates of eight (E1) and one piglet per pen (E2). For E1, the treatments were control (CD): no acidifier product + 40 ppm of colistin, FA: fumaric acid in...

Organic acids in diets of weaned piglets: performance, digestibility and economical viability Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Boas,A.D.C.V.; Budiño,F.E.L.; T. Neto,M.A.; Schmidt,A.; Dadalt,J.C.; Monferdini,R.P.; Sitanaka,N.Y.; Moraes,J.E.; Pizzolante,C.C..
ABSTRACT Organic acids are used as feed additives to promote growth of weaned piglets since they prevent the occurrence of diarrhea. Thus, performance and digestibility assays were conducted and economic viability of diets was evaluated. In the performance assays, 64 hybrid piglets weaned with a mean weight of 5.87±0.31kg were divided in a randomized block design consisting of 4 treatments, 8 repetitions and 2 piglets per experimental unit (1 castrated male and 1 female). In the digestibility assay, 24 castrated male hybrid piglets with a mean weight of 8.21±0.79kg were individually assigned to 4 treatments and 6 repetitions. The treatments in the two assays were as follows: control, basal diet without addition of an acidifier; blend: inclusion of 0.5% of...
