Macauba palm cake as additive in elephant grass silage Animal Sciences
Silveira, Hugo Vinícius Lelis; Braz, Thiago Gomes dos Santos; Rigueira, João Paulo Sampaio; Santos, Márcia Vitória; Gusmão, Jéssica Oliveira; Alves, Matheus Almeida; Martuscello, Janaina Azevedo; Mourthé, Mário Henrique França.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the addition of macauba palm cake (Acrocomia aculeata) on the chemical composition, fermentation and aerobic stability of elephant grass silages (Pennisetum purpureum). The experiment was performed in a completely randomized design with four replicates. The treatments were composed of six levels of macauba palm cake (0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30%) as additive to elephant grass silage. Dry matter and ethereal extract content of the silage increased linearly with the inclusion of the additive. Addition levels of 15.54% would provide 35% of dry mass, and the limit of 7.00% of ethereal extract in the silage could be obtained with 10.47%. The neutral detergent fiber content reduced linearly from 68.97 to 52.59%, but lignin...

Fractionation of dry matter losses of sugarcane silage treated with alkalis or urea Agrociencia
Oliveira-Borgatti,Laura M.; Pavan-Neto,José; Tobias-Marino,Carolina; Marques-Meyer,Paula; Mazza-Rodrigues,P. Henrique.
Different additives evaluation can contribute fof improving quality and yield of silage production. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of adding alkalis or urea on fractionation losses due to fermentation and on aerobic stability of sugarcane silage. The experimental design was completely randomized with 13 treatments (6x2) +1: 6 additives (1 or 2 %) plus a control group, and four repetitions per treatment. Data were analyzed by polynomial regression analysis using GLM procedure. The tested additives were sodium hydroxide (NaOH), limestone (CaCO3), urea (CO(NH2)2), sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), quicklime (CaO) and hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2). The material was ensiled in 52 laboratory silos (plastic buckets; 12 L capacity) and...

Effects of Lactobacillus buchneri inoculation or 1-propanol supplementation to corn silage on the performance of lactating Holstein cows R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Janielen da; Winckler,João Pedro Pereira; Pasetti,Maximiliano Henrique de Oliveira; Salvo,Pedro Augusto Ribeiro; Kristensen,Niels Bastian; Daniel,João Luiz Pratti; Nussio,Luiz Gustavo.
ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the effects of corn silage supplemented with 1-propanol or inoculated with L. buchneri on the ruminal fermentation profile, digestibility, and production traits of lactating Holstein cows. Whole-corn plants were harvested at 350 g/kg dry matter (DM) and packed in nine bag silos (13 t/silo). At ensiling, two treatments were applied: control (no additive; six silos) and L. buchneri inoculation with 1 × 105 cfu/g (three silos). Feeding started after 247 days of storage; one L. buchneri and two control silos were opened in each experimental period. Twenty-one multiparous Holstein cows (~33 kg/day of milk) were allocated to seven balanced 3 × 3 Latin squares with 21-day periods (14 days of adaptation). The experimental...

Effects of microbial inoculants and amino acid production by-product on fermentation and chemical composition of sugarcane silages R. Bras. Zootec.
Rodrigues,Paulo Henrique Mazza; Gomes,Rodrigo da Costa; Meyer,Paula Marques; Borgatti,Laura Maria Oliveira; Franco,Fernando Masello Junqueira; Godoy,Gilson Luiz Alves de.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition, fermentation patterns and aerobic stability of sugarcane silages with addition of amino acid production (monosodium glutamate) by-product (APB) and microbial inoculants. Mature sugarcane was chopped and ensiled in laboratory silos (n = 4/treatment) without additives (control) and with APB (10 g/kg), Pioneer 1174® (PIO, 1.0 mg/kg, Lactobacillus plantarum + Streptoccoccus faecium, Pioneer), Lalsil Cana (2.0 mg/kg, Lactobacillus buchineri, Lallemand) or Mercosil Maís 11C33® (1.0 mg/kg, Lactobacillus buchineri + Lactobacillus plantarum + Streptoccoccus faecium, Timac Agro). Fresh silage and silage liquor samples were obtained to assess pH, chemical composition and organic acid...

Common bean residue as additive in sugarcane silage Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Santos,Kelly Cristina dos; Magalhães,André Luiz Rodrigues; Conceição,Maria Gabriela da; Carvalho,Francisco Fernando Ramos de; Ferreira,Geane Dias Gonçalves.
ABSTRACT The sugarcane has a high content of soluble carbohydrates, thereby resulting in many losses during its fermentation. Thus, it is necessary to use an additive that reduces the losses in the nutritional value of the forage during the ensiling process. The objective was to evaluate the use of common bean residue during the sugarcane ensiling process over the silage nutritional quality and fermentation characteristics. Were used 20 silos made of PVC pipes, in which the residue of crude and previously ground common bean processing (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were added to newly chopped sugarcane in the proportions of 0; 50; 100 and 150 g kg-1 of fresh weight. A randomized design was used and the regression analysis was performed according to the level of...
