Pollen morphology and its taxonomic significance in the genus Bomarea Mirb. (Alstroemeriaceae) - II. Subgenus Bomarea Acta Botanica
Sarwar,Abul Khayer Mohammad Golam; Hoshino,Yoichiro; Araki,Hajime.
Pollen morphology of 52 species (out of c. 79) of the Bomarea subgenus Bomarea was examined using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), or using SEM alone. The studied species of Bomarea were stenopalynous, characterized by large, oblate, monosulcate monads with reticulate exine sculpture in most species. Wide variation was observed in quantitative palynological features. The studied taxa were divided into four major groups based on exine ornamentation observed under SEM: microreticulate, reticulate, coarsely rugulate, and psilate-perforate. The reticulate exine sculpture may be a plesiomorphic character state for the genus Bomarea, and the coarsely rugulate and finely rugulate-perforate or psilate-perforate exine sculptures may have...

Tawadare,Rakesh; Thangadurai,Devarajan; Khandagave,Rayappa Bharamappa; Mundaragi,Abhishek; Sangeetha,Jeyabalan.
Abstract: Sugarcane is a major commercial crop grown in India and across the world. Hence, several elite varieties have been developed now-a-days to overcome many obstacles including abiotic stresses and diseases. The present study was undertaken to screen genetic variation among twenty four sugarcane varieties that are commonly cultivated across Northern Karnataka, India with reference to physicochemical characters. Experiment was conducted in triplicate following randomized complete block design (RCBD) at S. Nijalingappa Sugar Institute, Belagavi, Karnataka, India during February 2016-17. Physiological parameters such as internode length, stalk height, plant height, stalk girth, number of internodes, single cane weight, single cane volume of juice, cane...
