Mechanical and Structural Characteristics of Cement Mortars Blended with Locust Bean Pod Ash CIGR Journal
Akpenpuun, Timothy Denen; Akinyemi, Banjo; Olawale, Olamide; Aladegboye, Oluwasegun Joshua; Adesina, Olalere Israel.
This study looks at the effect of cement replacement with locust bean pod ash (LBPA) as a supplementary cementitious material on compressive strength of mortars. The fresh properties (workability, initial and final setting times), compressive strength at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days and microstructural analysis (SEM, EDS and XRD) were evaluated. LBPA were considered at replacement levels of 0, 10, 15, 20 and 30% of cement mass for preparation of the mortar samples. Workability of the cement mortars reduced as the content of LBPA increases while initial and final setting times increased in relation to increase in LBPA content in the matrix. An increase of about 79% in compressive strength at 7 days, 100% at 14 days, 147% at 21 days and 136% at 28 days were...

Partial Purification and Characterization of β-glucosidase fromMonascus sanguineus BABT
Dikshit,Rashmi; Tallapragada,Padmavathi.
The aim of the present work was to study the production and characterization of β-glucosidase from Monascus sanguineus. Agro-waste residues were screened to obtain the maximum yield of enzyme. Jack fruit seed was the best substrate for enzyme production. Studies on the optimization of pH and temperature showed acidic pH favorable for enzymatic activity, whereas the optimum temperature was 60°C. Enzyme kinetics studies with different concentration of pNPG showed the calculated value of Km approximately 0.89 mM with the non-linear regression and 0.98 mM with the linear regression techniques. The enzyme was predominantly inhibited by KCl (69.8%) and moderately inhibited by CaCl2(14.8%). Studies on the sensitivity for glucose showed that after 100 mM...

Production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste by Rhizopus oryzae and Candida tropicalis BJM
Guneser,Onur; Demirkol,Asli; Yuceer,Yonca Karagul; Togay,Sine Ozmen; Hosoglu,Muge Isleten; Elibol,Murat.
Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste by microbial fermentation of Rhizopus oryzae and Candida tropicalis. Olive mill waste fermentations were performed in shake and bioreactor cultures. Production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste was followed by Gas Chromatography–Mass spectrometry, Gas chromatography- olfactometry and Spectrum Sensory Analysis ®. As a result, 1.73-log and 3.23-log cfu/mL increases were observed in the microbial populations of R. oryzae and C. tropicalis during shake cultures, respectively. C. tropicalis can produce a higher concentration of d-limonene from olive mill waste than R. oryzae in shake cultures. The concentration of d-limonene was determined as...
