Utilization of agroindustrial residues for lipase production by solid-state fermentation BJM
Damaso,Mônica Caramez Triches; Passianoto,Moisés Augusto; Freitas,Sidinéa Cordeiro de; Freire,Denise Maria Guimarães; Lago,Regina Celi Araujo; Couri,Sonia.
The aim of this work was to produce lipases by solid-state fermentation (SSF) using, as substrate, agroindustrial residue supplemented with by-products from corn oil refining process or olive oil. For a group of ten fungi strains selected in the first steps, the lipase activity obtained by SSF varied from 7.7 to 58.6 U/g of dry substrate (gds). Among the evaluated strains, the Aspergillus niger mutant 11T53A14 was selected by presenting the best enzymatic production. For the fermentation tests, two substrates were also investigated: wheat bran and corn cob, both supplemented with olive oil. The best results were obtained with wheat bran. Additionally, three industrial by-products from corn oil refining (soapstock, stearin and fatty acids) were evaluated as...

Passion fruit and apple: from residues to antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-Alzheimer’s potential Ciência Rural
Lima,Denise Simim; Duarte,Nathália Barroso Almeida; Barreto,Débora Luiza Costa; Oliveira,Geane Pereira de; Takahashi,Jacqueline Aparecida; Fabrini,Sabrina Pinheiro; Sande,Denise.
ABSTRACT: The waste in the fruit production chain, including the juice and pulp industries, produces large quantities of leftover husks, seeds and bagasse. This volume of waste generates huge environmental and economic impact. The objective of this research was to determine the potential of using residues from passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) and apple (Malus domestica) varieties in the production of functional flours. Passion fruit flour showed greater reduction of DPPH (EC50%: 50.4μg/mL) radicals, showing antioxidant potential, as well as a more efficient inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus (71.3±1.2μg/mL), with a modest; however efficient, inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (10%). All Apple flours were good antioxidants and the fuji apple flour stood...

Development of mortar for laying and coating with pineapple fibers AGRIAMBI
Azevedo,Afonso R.; Marvila,Markssuel T.; Zanelato,Euzébio B.; Alexandre,Jonas; Xavier,Gustavo C.; Cecchin,Daiane.
ABSTRACT Brazil is one of the largest producers of pineapple in the world, which, in addition to bringing substantial benefits, contributes to increasing waste generation in the stages of processing, aiming at its consumption. The Brazilian environmental legislation has been increasingly more restrictive with respect to the disposal of solid waste, whether domestic, industrial or agro-industrial, which has stimulated studies related to the use of these materials in several matrices. This study aimed to evaluate the potentiality of using the natural fiber of pineapple (Ananas comosus), extracted from its leaves, as reinforcing material in cementitious composites. For this purpose, natural fiber extracted from the pineapple crown was incorporated in...

Chemical composition and metabolizable energy values of feedstuffs for broiler chickens R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Eliane Aparecida da; Albino,Luiz Fernando Teixeira; Rostagno,Horacio Santiago; Ribeiro Junior,Valdir; Vieira,Rodolfo Alves; Campos,Anastácia Maria de Araújo; Messias,Rodrigo Knop Guazzi.
The objective of this study was to estimate the values of apparent metabolizable energy and apparent metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen balance and determine the chemical composition of the following feedstuffs: babassu meal, sunflower meal, corn gluten meal, babassu starch flour, meat and bones meal, beans, millet, cookies residue, pasta residue and bread-making residue. The traditional method of excreta collection was used with broilers in the period of 14 to 24 days of age, which were distributed in a completely randomized design with eleven treatments and six replicates of six birds each. Each feedstuff replaced the reference diet at levels of 30 or 40% depending on the type of feedstuff. Chicks were housed in cages fitted with trays to...
