Las condiciones ambientales asociadas a gradientes altitudinales inducen modificaciones de las características morfo-anatómicas de las especies que ahí se encuentran. Las variaciones morfo-anatómicas en regiones intertropicales han sido poco documentadas. Se espera que los patrones relacionados con estos gradientes altitudinales serán similares a aquellos registrados en regiones fuera de la zona intertropical. The ichthyofauna of upper rio Capivari: defining conservation strategies based on the composition and distribution of fish species Neotropical Ichthyology

Although the rio Capivari basin is recognized as an area of great importance for the ichthyofauna, it lacks virtually every basic requirement for the definition of appropriate conservation strategies, since not even its species composition is known. The objective of this work is to determine the composition and distribution of fish species in the upper rio Capivari basin, relating them to the local physical features, and to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed conservations units, delimited based on areas of native vegetation remains, on the conservation of local ichthyofauna. Climatic change will decouple the matching between genotypes and environments. Studying the patterning of genetic variation among pine populations along altitudinal gradients under simulated climatic change temperatures, would provide insights about how to realign the present populations to future environments. The relationship between species richness, diversity and grazing frequency along an altitudinal gradient (1900-3400 m) of an Andean ecosystem indicates that there is an intense human pressure on vegetation use. To identify the vascular flora and its conservation, 20 sites were sampled in two visits during 2006. We identified 79 taxa, including 62.03% native species, 22.78% adventitious and 8.86% endemic (the remaining 6.33% was identified only at the genus level). Some genera were underrepresented.
