The Levator Claviculae Muscle and Unilateral Third Head of the Sternocleidomastoid Muscle: Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Fazliogullari,Zeliha; Cicekcibasi,Aynur Emine; Unver Dogan,Nadire; Yilmaz,Mehmet Tugrul; Buyukmumcu,Mustafa; Ziylan,Taner.
A rare case of unilateral third head of sternocleidomastoid and an extra muscle levator claviculae were determined unilaterally in a 70-year-old male cadaver during the routine dissections. In the left neck side, it was observed that the sternocleidomastoid muscle also had a third part in addition to known sternal and clavicular heads and levator claviculae muscle which arose from the posterior tubercle of the transverse process of the 3rd cervical vertebra and attached to the posterior margin of the clavicle. An awareness of this variations may be important because of its close relationship with neurovascular structures during neck operations.

Variations in The Vascular Supply of Pancreas and Transverse Colon: A Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Silva Júnior,L. M; Alexandre,M; Gonçalves,L; Silva,F. S; Caetano,A. G.
During anatomical dissection of the abdominal cavity of an adult male corpse, a changing pattern of vascular supply of pancreas and of the transverse colon was observed. The inferior pancreatic artery and the middle colic artery arose from a common trunk of the superior mesenteric artery. Moreover, the lienal artery did not direct a dorsal branch to the neck of the pancreas, but rather sent two greater pancreatic arteries (proximal and distal) to the body of the gland and one caudal artery to the terminal portion of the pancreas. We also observed a large communicating branch between the proximal portion of the middle colic artery and the ascending branch of the left colic artery, previously described as artery of Moskowitz. Based on these data, clinical...

An Unusual Anatomic Variation of the Jugular Foramen with Doubled Posterior Condylar Canal International Journal of Morphology
Kapakin,Samet.
A case of unusual anatomical variation of the jugular foramen (JF) with doubled posterior condylar canal (PCC) is reported. According to the presence of bridging, the JF can be defined as Type I (one septation, two compartments) on the right side and Type IV (three septations, four compartments) on the left side. The dome of the jugular fossa is present on the right, absent on the left. The jugular foramen shows a canal-like structure with an external and an internal opening. The lengths of the longest and widest axes of the JFs are measured as 21.93 x 16.56 mm on the right and 16.75 x 15.14 mm on the left side. The right JF is larger. The PCC is doubled on the right side and there is only one on the left side. It is essential not only to know compartments...

Study of Frequency of the Palmaris Longus Musclem in Chilean Subjects International Journal of Morphology
Alves,Nilton; Ramírez,Daysi; Figueiredo Deana,Naira.
The palmaris longus muscle (PLM) lies on the anterior region of the forearm, it is considered one of the most variable muscles in the human body, and its agenesis is the most frequent anatomic variation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of the PLM tendon in Chilean adults and also, to verify the agenesis symmetry according to sex. For this, we have analyzed the presence of the PLM tendon in 200 Chilean individuals, 114 female and 86 male. In this study, three different tests were used: Schaeffer's Test, Mishra's First Test and Thompson's Test. The obtained data were tabled and analyzed. It could be observed that 91% of the individuals had the PLM muscle tendon in at least one of the forearms and 80% in both forearms. The unilateral...

Bilateral Bifid Mandibular Condyle: A Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Melo,Suzana Lubambo de; Barbosa,Joanna Martins Novais; Peixoto,Aline Carvalho; Santos,Thiago de Santana; Gerbi,Marleny.
The bifid mandibular condyle is an exceedingly rare anomaly, frequently diagnosed as an incidental finding in a panoramic radiograph. Its etiology and pathogenesis are unknown, though the most acceptable theory suggests that trauma is at the origin of the condition. This article reports a new case of bilateral bifid condyle in a 21-year-old female with history of trauma in childhood.

Variation of Length of Styloid Process International Journal of Morphology
Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de Amorim; Oliveira,Bruna Paloma de; Silva,Elma Mariana Verçosa de Melo; Torres,Raphaela Christianne Maia Soares.
The styloid process is a bony projection that arises from the tympanic portion of the temporal bone, and its elongation is considered an anomaly that may be related to calcification of the stylohyoid and stylomandibular ligaments, which can trigger a series of symptoms that characterize the Eagle's syndrome. The objective of this study was to report three cases of elongated styloid process seen in human skulls, trying to alert the dentists in the knowledge of this disease in order to include it in their diagnosis, associated with atypical facial pain or in the oral cavity of to facilitate better treatment for these cases.

Unilateral Variations of Vessels and Nerves in the Neck International Journal of Morphology
Unver Dogan,Nadire; Cicekcibasi,Aynur Emine; Fazliogullari,Zeliha; Yilmaz,Mehmet Tugrul; Uysal,Ismihan Ilknur; Salbacak,Ahmet.
Variations of vessels and nerves in the left neck side, of 65 year old male cadaver, during the routine dissections, were detected. It was observed that the linguofacial trunk originated from external carotid artery and that the ascending pharyngeal artery originated from the occipital artery. It was determined that after the laryngeopharyngeales rami originated from the superior cervical ganglion, the branch wound around the origin of the superior thyroid artery. As an additional variation, the internal jugular vein divided. The cervical ansa and the inferior belly of the omohyoid muscle passed through the parts of the vein. We think that these type of variation can entail important difficulties during radiologic and surgical procedures of the neck...

Bifid Condylar Process: Cases Report International Journal of Morphology
Fuentes Fernández,Ramón; Flores Flores,Homero; Silva Mella,Héctor; Flores Lillo,Tania.
The bifid condylar process is a rare anomaly. Most of the known cases are radiographic findings, mainly in ortopantomography and nuclear magnetic resonance. The condition is usually asymptomatic, while in some cases are associated with ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint. It is reported that the presence of bifid condylar process is not determined by age and gender, but the findings are among the ages of 3 to 67 years, with the average age of 35 years. The present report presents two cases of patients with abnormalities of condylar process detectable through radiographic examination.

Leaf anatomy variation within and between three "restinga" populations of Erythroxylum ovalifolium Peyr: (Erythroxylaceae) in Southeast Brazil Rev. Bras. Bot.
Mantuano,Dulce Gilson; Barros,Cláudia Franca; Scarano,Fábio Rubio.
Erythroxylum ovalifolium is a woody shrub widespread in the "restinga", i.e. the open scrub vegetation of the Brazilian coastal sandy plains. We examined leaf anatomy variation of this species both within populations and between populations of three "restingas" in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Sites were ca.100 km far from each other and differed in regard to rainfall and vegetation structure: a dry, open site; a wet, dense site and an intermediate one. Microhabitats within sites were: (i) exposed to full irradiance, outside vegetation islands; (ii) partially exposed to full irradiance, at the border of vegetation islands; (iii) shaded, inside vegetation islands. Leaf anatomy parameters were measured for five leaves collected in each of five plants per...
