Determination of some engineering properties, proximate composition and phytochemical properties of African star apple (chrysophyllum albidum) CIGR Journal

African star apple (Chrysophyllum albidum) is a popular tree in tropical region with all the parts used for food and medicinal purposes. This study focused on the determination of some physical properties, mechanical properties, proximate composition, and phytochemical properties of the fruit. The experiment was conducted using standard procedures. Results for the physical properties of the fruits have values as follows: length per fruit 3.41 – 5.53 cm, width per fruit 3.31 – 5.08 cm, and thickness per fruit 2.93 – 4.73 cm, respectively. The density was found to be 1.073 gcm-3. Abstract: Information on physical properties of broiler chickens diets is not available in literatures and such information is important for design and construction of poultry equipments.  Some physical properties of starter, grower and finisher diet of broiler chickens, namely: gravimetrical (bulk density, true density and porosity) and frictional properties (coefficient of friction filling angle of repose, empting angle of repose and pouring angle of repose) were studied.  Effect of height of falling diets to the containers at 150, 250 and 350 mm and volume of the containers at 500, 600, 1,100 and 2,000 mL on bulk density and porosity of diets were studied.  Results indicated that true density of the starter; grower and finisher diets were 1,442.574,...

Effect of moisture on physical properties of dekoko CIGR Journal

Abstract: Dekoko is a cool season legume plant grown in northern Africa.  It is a rich source of protein for people in the region.  The effect of moisture on some of the physical properties of dekoko seed was studied because it frequently affects some important parameters for the design of mechanical unit operations.  The moisture content of dekoko seed was determined according to ASAE standards S352.3 and all other physical properties following standard procedure described elsewhere.  The length, width, thickness, geometric mean diameter, thousand seed mass, porosity, true density and angle of repose increased from 5.60 to 6.51 mm, 4.99 to 5.78 mm, 4.60 to 5.44 mm, 5.05 to 5.89 mm, 94.08 to 126.10 g, 39.36 to 48.14%, 1361.66 to 1470.77 kg/m3 and 29.89° to...

Effect of Moisture Content on some Engineering properties of Groundnut Pods and Kernels CIGR Journal

Effect of moisture content on some engineering properties of groundnut pods and kernels were investigated. Two groundnut varieties were used namely; Manipintar and Ex-Dakar. The properties investigated were principal dimensions, porosity, bulk density, true density, angle of repose and static coefficient of friction as dependent variables while moisture content is the independent variable. At an increasing moisture content of 7.3 – 25.2 % d.b., the mean length, thickness, width, geometric mean diameter, arithmetic mean diameter and surface area for Ex-Dakar pods were 30.6 - 33.46, 12.55 - 14.89, 12.8 - 14.03, 16.88 – 18.71, 18.61 - 20.75 mm and 904.86 – 1099.73 cm2, respectively.
