Stamen morphoanatomy of Dyckia Schult.f. (Bromeliaceae, Pitcairnioideae) species: new data for taxonomic use Acta Botanica
Carvalho,Jordano Dorval Tavares de; Oliveira,João Marcelo Santos de; Freitas,Cesar Carvalho de; Martins,Meriélem Saldanha.
ABSTRACT This study presents a morphoanatomical analysis of Dyckia ibicuiensis , D. polyclada and D. racinae stamens. Flowers at anthesis were desiccated and their stamens were processed using common light microscopic techniques. Morphologically, the androecium in these species is differentiated by the disposition of the stamens around the gynoecium and by general anther characteristics. Included stamens, with antesepalous filaments different from those of the antepetalous, anthers in a radial disposition, always curved, and sporangia facing the gynoecium characterize D. ibicuiensis and D. racinae . This configuration results from the filament connation, as well as special anatomical characteristics of the anthers, such as the connective with thickenings....

Sato,Héctor A; Gonzalez,Ana M.

Chemical composition of essential oils of peltate glandular trichomes from leaves and flowers of Lepechinia floribunda (Lamiaceae) Boletín de la Sociedad
CAMINA,JULIA L.; DAMBOLENA,JOSÉ S.; ZYGADLO,JULIO A.; ASHWORTH,LORENA.
The knowledge of the chemical composition of different plant organs provides valuable Information for clarifying the functionality of secondary metabolites. Essential oils are secondary metabolites produced and stored in secretory structures on leaves, flowers, and steam. Many studies have shown that the chemical composition of the essential oil can differ depending on the plant organ and the secretory structures even if they are at the same organ. Such differences may be the consequence that organs also differ in type and density of glandular structure. Moreover, the same type of glandular structure can change its chemical composition depending on its position within the same organ. However, no study has been evaluating the chemical composition of the...

Thai Agricultural
Sarun Khumto; Benjawan Rerkasem; Sansanee Jamjod.
Cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.) is self-pollinating, with flowering traits that exclude crosspollination. Hybrid rice seed production is therefore limited by low outcrossing rate between parental lines. To improve outcrossing ability in cultivated rice, common wild rice (O. rufipogon Griff.) was used as a source for outcrossing traits and backcrossed to Suphanburi 1 (SPR1) cultivated rice (BC2). In this study, F5 progenies of the backcross (BC2F5) were grown and evaluated for flowering traits in comparison with SPR1 parent. At flowering, florets were collected to measure the length of anthers and pistil. The anthers of SPR1 averaged 2.32 mm and pistil 1.50 mm, in length. The F5 population ranged 2.40 to 3.93 mm in anther length (3% to 170% of SPR1) and...
