ABSTRACT: Aster (Aster ericoides L.) is a flower crop of North American origin, which belongs to the family Asteraceae. This plant presents capitulum-type inflorescences, widely used as cut flowers. In Brazil, it has been grown only recently, but still has a high expansion potential. In floriculture, pulsing and conditioning solutions are often used to extend the vase life of cut flowers. The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of multispectral remote sensing for site-specific nitrogen fertilizer management. Satellite imagery from the advanced spaceborne thermal emission and reflection radiometer (Aster) was acquired in a 23 ha corn-planted area in Iran. For the collection of field samples, a total of 53 pixels were selected by systematic randomized sampling. The total nitrogen content in corn leaf tissues in these pixels was evaluated. Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a eficiência dos classificadores redes neurais artificiais (RNA) e o de máxima verossimilhança (Maxver) na classificação do uso da terra no município de Viçosa, MG, a partir de imagens do sensor ASTER, com ênfase nos níveis de degradação das pastagens. Neste estudo, foram identificados três níveis de degradação das pastagens (moderado, forte e muito forte) e avaliada uma composição da imagem do sensor ASTER contendo as 3 bandas do visível e infravermelho próximo, com resolução espacial de 15 m. O simulador de redes neurais empregado foi o "Java Neural Network Simulator" e o algoritmo de aprendizado, o backpropagation.
