| Usando series de tiempo de promedios diarios de presión atmosférica, temperatura ambiental, temperatura superficial y nivel medio del mar en los años 1994-1995 en cinco estaciones costeras de Ecuador y Colombia y una estación en las Islas galápagos (Ecuador) se aplicaron las técnicas del análisis espectral para determinar las oscilaciones existentes en el océano y la atmósfera. Se obtuvieron con alto niveles de coherencia, cinco modos predominantes en la atmósfera tropical: la oscilación de 37 días, muy próxima a la oscilación de Madden-Julian (1972), un modo de tres semanas con características de la " autooscilación" de 21 días, Murakami, 1974 y que es de naturaleza planetaria, una tercera oscilación de 17 días, de características muy similares a la onda... |

| Tide gauge measurements recorded at two stations in the Red Sea, at Port Sudan from 1986 - 1994 and at Gizan for the period of 1992 - 1994 are used to analyze the sea level changes and tide along the east and west coast of the Red Sea, using the harmonic analysis (t tide). Meteorological parameters during the same period are used to study the response of the sea level and residual sea level to local and global forcing. The relation between sea level and forces are examined using the correlation and cross covariance analysis. The correlation and cross-covariance coe cients between sea level and sea level pressure at Port Sudan indicate that the sea level responds to atmospheric pressure as non-inverse barometer. | An increase in daily mortality from myocardial infarction has been observed in association with meteorological factors and air pollution in several cities in the world, mainly in the northern hemisphere. The objective of the present study was to analyze the independent effects of environmental variables on daily counts of death from myocardial infarction in a subtropical region in South America. We used the robust Poisson regression to investigate associations between weather (temperature, humidity and barometric pressure), air pollution (sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and inhalable particulate), and the daily death counts attributed to myocardial infarction in the city of São Paulo in Brazil, where 12,007 fatal events were observed from 1996 to 1998.... |
