| Nineteen new record species for Argentina belonged to Bacillariophyceae and Chlorophyceae Classes were identified as the result of the analysis of a total of 103 phytoplankton samples obtained from a 5-year study survey performed in 6 lotic systems from Buenos Aires province, tributaries of Río de la Plata river: Paraná de las Palmas river (1995-1996), Samborombón river, El Pescado, J. Blanco, Buñirrigo, Rodríguez and El Gato streams (1997-1998) and in a intensive study carried out in the last two systems (1999). | Based on Coulter Counter data, a new method is proposed to study the influence of the polymorphous variability in size as well as in shape of the diatom species Skeletonema costatum on the physiological performances of the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum . Three conditions are required in order to convert volumetric data determined with the Coulter Counter into metric data, i.e. (1) stability of the pervalvar diameter of the diatom chains, (2) statistical independence between length and pervalvar diameter of the diatom chains, and (3) negligible level of coincident passages through the aperture orifice. | Microalgal population of oyster ponds is dominated by several tychobenthic diatoms which provide a very good food to grow oysters. The mechanisms which allow them to dominate have been put under research. H.P.L.C. analysis demonstrated 17 amino acids amounted 10-17% of total DON, i.e. 0.6-11.5 mu g-at/l nitrogen. Serin and glycin were the most abundant. None of the substances was related to the presence of oyster. Glutamic acid, alanin and ornithin concentrations showed the greatest variations; they are suspected to play the major role as nutrient source. | En este trabajo se analizó la estructura comunitaria de diatomeas depositadas en los sedimentos superficiales de ocho lagos andinos chilenos ubicados entre los 32°49' y 38°48' S. Se encontró un total de 99 taxa de diatomeas, distribuidos en 48 géneros. Del total de taxa, 74 fueron identificados a nivel de especie siendo todos ellos cosmopolitas a excepción de Eunotia andinofrequens, Gomphonema punae, Pinnularia araucanensis y Pinnularia acidicola, entre otras, que están descritos solo para el Hemisferio Sur. | Foi realizado um estudo da flora perifítica de diatomáceas (Bacillariophyceae) existente no Rio Jaú, tributário do Rio Negro, Amazônia (2º57'S e 61º49'W). As coletas foram realizadas manualmente nas cheias de 1995, 1996 e 1997, e as lâminas permanentes encontram-se depositadas no Herbário FLOR, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Foram identificados 60 táxons específicos e infra-específicos, distribuidos em 16 gêneros e 13 famílias. Eunotiaceae foi a família melhor representada, com 43,3% do total dos táxons inventariados, seguida de Pinnulariaceae com 21,6% e Surirellaceae com 11,6%. | Através da análise da composição específica e da diversidade da comunidade de diatomáceas, em duas estações do sistema Guaíba (RS, Brasil), nos meses de setembro e novembro de 1975, foi encontrada uma diferença significativa na estrutura dessa comunidade. | This study aimed at evaluating the effects of the intensive fish-farming and the domestic wastewater on the structure of the phycoperiphyton community. Three experimental supports containing artificial substrate were assembled in two sampling sites: IF – region with intensive fish-farming and DW – near the domestic wastewater discharge. Samplings were carried out after the 21st, 26th and 31st day of colonization. | ABSTRACTThe species originally described from brackish waters of the Venetian Lagoon asNitzschia persuadens is a diatom rarely cited in the literature since its proposition and it is here recorded for the first time in a freshwater environment in South America. Morphological features of this species, such valve slightly panduriform, with a longitudinal straight fold of the valve face, poroidal areolae, and strongly eccentric raphe system clearly assign this species to Tryblionella, and the transfer was made. Here we present new observations on the frustule morphology and comparisons with related species. Light and scanning electron microscopy data of Tryblionella persuadens comb. nov. from Cachoeira River, Northeastern Brazil are documented. |

| El presente trabajo fue realizado en dos lagos urbanos artificiales de Río Cuarto (Córdoba): Parque Sarmiento y Villa Dalcar, durante el año 2003. El objetivo fue: conocer y comparar la composición algal, su relación con parámetros ambientales y registros bacteriológicos en ambos lagos. Se determinaron 275 taxa: 178 Bacillariophyceae , 60 Chlorophyceae , 21 Cyanophyceae , 13 Euglenophyceae , 2 Dinophyceae y 1 Chrysophyceae . Las especies y/o variedades fueron registradas por primera vez para el área de estudio, 53 son nuevas citas para la provincia de Córdoba y 8 para la Argentina.
