A revision of the Shallow-water Azooxanthellate Scleractinia of the Western Atlantic Naturalis
Cairns, Stephen D..
CAIRNS, S. D., 2000. A revision of the shallow-water azooxanthellate Scleractinia of the western Atlantic. Studies Nat. Hist. Caribbean Region 75, Amsterdam, 2000: 1-231. This paper constitutes the second of a two part revision of the western Atlantic azooxanthellate Scleractinia — this part addressing the taxonomy and distribution of the 73 species known to occur at depths shallower than 183 m within the tropical and warm temperate realm. Of this number, 27 species occur exclusively shallower than 183 m; these are fully described, figured, and mapped. The remaining 46 species are also known to occur at depths greater than 183 m, most of those species treated more fully in part 1 (CAIRNS 1979). Lists are also provided of the azooxanthellate species that...

Janua (Dexiospira) Brasilliensis (Grube) (Polychaeta: Spirorbidae) : a new record from the South-West Netherlands Naturalis
Critchley, A.T.; Thorp, C.H..
A new record in the distribution of the immigrant spirorbid Janua (Dexiospira) brasiliensis is reported from Dutch waters. This is only the second European locality for the serpulid worm, otherwise known from warmer latitudes. J. (D.) brasiliensis (Grube) was found associated with the marine angiosperm Zostera marina L. and the exotic brown alga Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt, within the protected environment of a saline canal in the south-west Netherlands.

Snakes of Sulawesi: checklist, key and additional Biogeographical remarks Naturalis
Bosch, H.A.J. in den.
A checklist with concise synonymy and a key to the snakes of Sulawesi is presented, comprising 63 species in 38 genera; 3 subspecies and 15 species, of which one constitutes a monotypic genus, are considered endemic. There is a strong Indo-Malayan relationship. Sea-snakes and Candoia carinata excluded, no Philippine, Papuan or Australian affinities were found. Geological and ecological barriers, together with a low immigration pressure from the south and east, are considered causal factors. Although Sulawesi has been an instable island region at least since the Late Cretaceous as compared with most surrounding islands, which were parts of Sundaland or Sahulland and as such were formed relatively recently, the species richness in Wallacea is of the same...

Synopsis of the freshwater Triclads of the Caribbean (Platyhelminthes, Tricladida, Paludicola) Naturalis
Sluys, Ronald.
SLUYS, R., 1992. Synopsis of the freshwater triclads of the Caribbean (Platyhelminthes, Tricladida, Paludicola). Studies Nat. Hist. Caribbean Region 71, Amsterdam, 1992: 1-23. An account is given of the five species of freshwater triclads which are known from the Caribbean region, including taxonomic descriptions, karyological, ecological, and biogeographic information, supplemented with remarks on observations of previous workers and comparisons with similar species. Records of unidentified specimens are summarized. Caribbean freshwater planarians belong to the genus Girardia; the phylogenetic relationships within this genus remain to be resolved. It is argued that present distributional patterns in Caribbean Girardia’s may be the result of vicariance...

The Hesperiidae (Lepidoptera) of the Philippines Naturalis
Jong, R. de; Treadaway, C.G..
All species and subspecies of the Hesperiidae known from the Philippines are listed and their distribution across the islands, preferred habitats and flight habits are indicated. By far the richest habitat is the primary lowland forest. In view of the high rate of deforestation it is estimated that 50% of the hesperiid species is endangered and may become extinct over the next 10 to 15 years. With 151 species the Philippines is considerably poorer than Borneo (214 species), but much richer than Sulawesi (84 species). In terms of endemicity, however, the Philippines is with 35 endemic species (23.2%) relatively much richer than Borneo (12 species, 5.6%), and almost as rich as Sulawesi (20 species, 23.8%). The distribution and endemicity of species and...
