The species Sitobion graminis Takahashi, 1950 (Hemiptera, Aphididae) was first detected in Brazil in 1998, in Curitiba, Paraná state, associated with the grass species Erianthus sp., Calamagrotis sp. and Paspalum urvilei. Both the field-collected and laboratory-reared specimens presented a noticeable intrapopulational variation in body and appendix length and in dorso-abdominal sclerotization. This species has been recorded in Malaysia, New Guinea, India, Philippines and Africa, where it colonizes several species of Poaceae. S. graminis differs from other Sitobion species from Brazil associated with grasses, as it presents black cauda and siphunculi and exhibits a constriction in the base of the last rostral segment. Biological data were obtained in the... |

Some biological, morphological and behavioral aspects of adults Podisus sculptus Distant, 1889 (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) fed with Bombyx mori Linnaeus, 1758 (Lepidoptera, Bombycidae) (fourth and fifth instar caterpillars) and Tenebrio molilor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) (third and fourth instar caterpillars) were studied and no differences were found between these two preys. Average values for the parameters studied were: period of pre-oviposition (6.14 days), oviposition (8.57 days) and pos-oviposition (3.57 days); number of eggs/female (97.71); number of postures/female (3.96); female weight (68.90mg) and male weight (47.43mg). Podisus sculptus has brownish color, and four yellow spots in the scutelum: one close to the head and three... |

Stellifer stellifer (Bloch, 1790) is one among the most abundant ictiofauna species which are caught by sea-bob-shrimp's artisanal fishery in Armação do Itapocoroy. Aiming to analyze its population structure, a total of 1459 specimens were collected from July/1996 to August/1997. Stellifer stellifer presented lengths varying between 3,7 and 17,7 cm, macroscopic sex differentiation started from 6,0cm, with a higher frequency of females (sex ratio = 1:3,2). The relationship between length and weight was Wt = 0,0073Lt3,1415. First maturation size was determined for females (7,5 cm) and males (8,1 cm). The fishery acts in a similar way on juveniles and adults. Stellifer stellifer presented two spawning seasons, one in spring and another in autumn. |
