Donnees nouvelles sur le germon Thunnus alalunga Bonnaterre 1788 dans le Nord-Est Atlantique. 1iere partie. Rythmes alimentaires et circadiens chez legermon Thunnus alalunga dans le nord-est Atlantique. ArchiMer
Aloncle, Henri; Delaporte, Francis.
This work is divided into 4 parts. First, in a broad introduction, a short history is given on albacore fishing in the bay of Biscay from its origin until its present extension in the neighbourhood of the Acores. This is followed by a history of the research beginning with the first attempts at classifying the albacore and then with the first investigations done on research ships; then the authors explain the reasons and the evolution of their work with reference to what was already known. The 2nd part of the study describes the campaigns of research from 1967 to 1972 to study the albacore in the north east Atlantic and the fishing and prospecting techniques used during these campaigns. The 3rd part of this investigation shows the research works sensu...

Influence of the nycthemeral cycle on the roosting behaviour of the Orange-winged Amazon Anais da ABC (AABC)
Moura,Leiliany N. de; Silva,Maria Luisa da; Vielliard,Jacques M.E..
Environmental stimuli exert important effects on the expression of the endogenous rhythms. Daily movements of groups of parrots in response to the light/dark cycle have been studied by several researchers. However, the factors modifying the intrinsic rhythmicity of this behaviour remain little known. This study describes how the nychthemeral/circadian periodicity of roost daily movements of the Orange-winged Amazon Amazona amazonica is modified by weather factors. Numbers of parrots arriving or leaving the roosting site Ilha dos Papagaios were determined on a minute by minute basis. More parrots have significantly arrived at the roost after sunset than before, while more parrots have significantly left the roost before sunrise than after. The peak exodus...

The Circadian Timing System: Making Sense of day/night gene expression Biol. Res.
RICHTER,HANS G; TORRES-FARFÁN,CLAUDIA; ROJAS-GARCÍA,PEDRO P; CAMPINO,CARMEN; TORREALBA,FERNANDO; SERÓN-FERRÉ,MARÍA.
The circadian time-keeping system ensures predictive adaptation of individuals to the reproducible 24-h day/night alternations of our planet by generating the 24-h (circadian) rhythms found in hormone release and cardiovascular, biophysical and behavioral functions, and others. In mammals, the master clock resides in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus. The molecular events determining the functional oscillation of the SCN neurons with a period of 24-h involve recurrent expression of several clock proteins that interact in complex transcription/translation feedback loops. In mammals, a glutamatergic monosynaptic pathway originating from the retina regulates the clock gene expression pattern in the SCN neurons, synchronizing them to the...

Cellular aging: theories and technological influence BABT
Mercado-Sáenz,Silvia; Ruiz-Gómez,Miguel J.; Morales-Moreno,Francisco; Martínez-Morillo,Manuel.
The aim of this article was to review the factors that influence the aging, relationship of aging with the biological rhythms and new technologies as well as the main theories to explain the aging, and to analysis the causes of aging. The theories to explain the aging could be put into two groups: those based on a program that controlled the regression of the organism and those that postulated that the deterioration was due to mutations. It was concluded that aging was a multifactorial process. Genetic factors indicated the maximum longevity of the individual and environmental factors responsible for the real longevity of the individual. It would be necessary to guarantee from early age the conservation of a natural life rhythm.

The brain decade in debate: IV. Chronobiology BJMBR
Aguilar-Roblero,R.; Aréchiga,H.; Ashkenazi,I.; Burioka,N.; Cipolla-Neto,J.; Cornélissen,G.; Markus,R.; Marques,N.; Menezes,A.A.L.; Monk,T.H.; Ralph,M.; Valdez-Ramirez,P.; Menna-Barreto,L..
The present article is the adapted version of an electronic symposium organized by the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC) which took place on June 14, 2000. The text is divided into three sections: I. The main issues, II. Chronodrugs, and III. Methods. The first section is dedicated to the perspectives of chronobiology for the next decade, with opinions about the trends of future research being emitted and discussed. The second section deals mostly with drugs acting or potentially acting on the organism's timing systems. In the third section there are considerations about relevant methodological issues concerning data analysis.
