| Responsible for massive epizootics, the Marteilia type parasites are very dangerous infectious agents for oysters. As a matter of fact, in France the spreading out of the parasitosis caused by Marteilia refringens disturbed dangerously the flat oyster, Ostrea edulis, production; destroying a large percentage of the farms on the Atlantic coast. The fight against marteiliose implies a good management of the contamination risk, that is to say the identification of the parasite(s), the characterization of the host(s), vector(s) or reservoir(s) and the understanding of the parasite's transmission mode. |
