Vertical variation of atrazine mineralization capacity in soils Agriscientia (Córdoba)
Hang,S.; Houot,S.; Barriuso,E..
The variation of atrazine mineralization capacity was investigated in two soil profiles selected with (adapted soil) and without (non-adapted soil) atrazine application history in Córdoba, Argentina. Atrazine evolution was characterized by balance of 14C-U-ring atrazine radioactivity between mineralized, extractable and non-extractable fractions by means of incubations under laboratory conditions in two soil situations: with dry heat treatment (T105) and without heat treatment (Control). The strong decrease of atrazine mineralization after microbial inactivation during all the incubation period in adapted soil suggests that the atrazine degraders were distributed throughout the entire adapted soil profile and were responsible for atrazine mineralization in...

Madalão,João Carlos; Souza,Matheus Freitas de; Silva,Alberto Antônio; Silva,Daniel Valadão; Jakelaitis,Adriano; Pereira,Gustavo Antônio Mendes.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis) as a potential remediator of sulfentrazone in the soil. The experiment was conducted under field conditions in a complete randomised block design. The treatments consisted of soils with and without herbicide application as well as the absence and presence of C. ensiformis cultivation associated with incorporation into the soil or the removal of shoots of C. ensiformis. Sorghum was planted as a bioindicator to evaluate the remediation efficiency of jack bean. Sulfentrazone application in areas without C. ensiformis cultivation decreased plants stands, productivity, and height of sorghum compared to treatments where C. ensiformis was cultivated. Sorghum cultivated in succession to C....

Isolation of diuron-degrading bacteria from treated soil BABT
Dellamatrice,Priscila Maria; Monteiro,Regina Teresa Rosim.
Studies were carried out on the isolation of diuron-degrading bacteria from treated soil. The mineralization of 14C-diuron in soil following a three-year application and in soil without previous application were 68.95 mug.100 g-1 and 24.16 mug.100 g-1, respectively, after a 64-day incubation period. In the first soil there was a significant increase in the number of bacteria, from 3.3 x 10 6 to 1.9 x 10(8). The microbial biomass did not change, however, a significant 14C-residue of diuron was found in the microbial biomass. A consortium of three bacteria, Acinetobacter johnsonii and two Bacillus spp., was isolated in medium containing diuron as the only carbon source. Only A. johnsonii was able to grow alone in medium with diuron as the only carbon source.

Castro-Silva,Marcus Adonai; Lima,André Oliveira de Souza; Gerchenski,Ana Valéria; Jaques,Daniela Batista; Rodrigues,André Luis; Souza,Pricila Lima de; Rörig,Leonardo Rubi.
The coal mining activity is characterized by the generation of large amount of by-products. One of them is pyrite, which tends to acidify the water, solubilizing heavy metals. As a consequence the environment becomes acid and rich in heavy metals, selecting microorganisms able to survive in this condition, which are of great interest as bioremediation agents. This work describes the isolation and characterization of microorganisms from a coal mining area in Santa Catarina. These microorganisms comprised bacteria, fungi and yeasts resistant to zinc, nickel and cadmium.
