Stability of Breeding Values Blended International Breeding values of Bulls into National Evaluations for Dairy Cattle OAK
AIPL(Animal Improvement Programs...

IMPACTS OF DON IN THE MALTING BARLEY SUPPLY CHAIN: AGGREGATE COSTS AND FIRM-LEVEL RISKS AgEcon
Johnson, D. Demcey; Nganje, William E..
DON is a toxic byproduct of fusarium head blight (FHB), a fungal disease of small grains. Beginning in 1993, a prolonged outbreak of FHB occurred in the Upper Midwest, the traditional source of most six-rowed malting barley produced in the United States. Price discounts associated with DON in barley have been significant. This paper has two objectives. The first is to estimate the impact of DON on the value of malting barley grown in the Upper Midwest. Using crop quality data, we use a linear programming model to derive optimal blends of barley supplies, given discount schedules and the distribution of quality factors. The premise is that blending activities, on a regional scale, allow a larger fraction of the crop to be sold as malting. The second...

A GENERAL FRAMEWORK FOR GRAIN BLENDING AND SEGREGATION AgEcon
Sivaraman, Eswar; Lyford, Conrad P.; Brorsen, B. Wade.
The Hennessy and Wahl model of optimal grain blending and segregation (GBS) is extended to the case where it is not possible to separate components within a load. Analytical solutions are not available when segregation is the optimal strategy, and so solutions are obtained with nonlinear optimization. The model is then used to determine the optimal sorting of hard red winter wheat by protein content. Most of the benefits from sorting can be obtained with only two bins.

STORING, DISTRIBUTION AND BLENDING OF BIODIESEL CIGR Journal
Micic, Radoslav.
Due to nature of biodiesel fuel (B100) as well as biodiesel and fossil diesel oil blends these fuels demands specific conditions of storage, handling, transportation and distribution. Although it is necessary to pay attention to each of the elements in the distribution chain, the most critical operations are related to storing. Tanks for biodiesel storinghave a dominant influence on the maintenance of stable quality, as may occur, issues that directly affect the degradation in quality and problems during distribution, blending and use. In the designing process of the tank space and the installations must be taken into account all specificities of biodiesel also that materials are resistant to the influence of biodiesel and does not affect it contamination....
