During the Tyro Mauritania Expedition (1988) of the Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum (formerly Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie) Leiden, six species of Blenniidae were caught at the coast and on the shelf of Mauritania, off the Banc d'Arguin. Additional specimens of Spaniblennius riodourensis (Metzelaar, 1919), previously known only from the holotype, allow to more fully describe the species and the genus Spaniblennius Bath & Wirtz, 1989. New records of Parablennius pilicornis (Cuvier, 1829), Parablennius goreensis (Valenciennes, 1836), Lipophrys velifer (Norman, 1935), Lipophrys pholis (Linnaeus, 1758), and Blennius normani Poll, 1949, present extensions of the known ranges of these species.
