Production of haploid plants from ten hybrids of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) through wide hybridization with maize (Zea mays L.) Agriscientia (Córdoba)
Torres,L.E.; Bima,P.; Maich,R.; Badiali,O.J.J.; Nisi,J..
The aim of this work was to obtain haploid plants of bread wheat through wide hybridization with maize. The experimental material included ten bread wheat hybrids (female parent) and one population of maize (pollen donor). Two assays were carried out in two different seasons (summer and winter). Wheat spikes were manually emasculated, each spike was pollinated twice with fresh pollen of maize and a solution of 2,4-D (100 mg l-1) was sprayed on pollinated florets and injected in the upper internode. Fifteen and 21 days after pollination caryopses were removed and surface sterilized. Embryos were cultured in tubes containing B5 medium. The ten hybrid combinations produced caryopses, but only eight of these hybrids produced embryos and, in six of them, the...

Response of Tunisian durum (Triticum turgidum ssp. durum) and bread (Triticum aestivum L.) wheats to water stress Agrociencia

Abstract Wheat is a staple crop in Tunisia, but little is known about the response of Tunisian durum wheat (Triticum turgidumssp.durum) and bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to water stress. In semi-arid regions, where cereals are concentrated, grain yield is subject to water deficit especially due to variability in rainfall. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the response to water stress of three durum wheat (Mâali, Nasr and Salim) and two bread wheat (Tahent and Utique) varieties. The experimental design was a complete randomized block, water treatments were rainfed conditions (T0) and irrigation applied at the tillering and flowering stages (T1, control) with three replications per treatment, and data was analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey...

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria reduce aphid population and enhance the productivity of bread wheat BJM
Naeem,Muhammad; Aslam,Zubair; Khaliq,Abdul; Ahmed,Jam Nazir; Nawaz,Ahmad; Hussain,Mubshar.
Abstract Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria increase plant growth and give protection against insect pests and pathogens. Due to the negative impact of chemical pesticides on environment, alternatives to these chemicals are needed. In this scenario, the biological methods of pest control offer an eco-friendly and an attractive option. In this study, the effect of two plant growth promoting rhizobacterial strains (Bacillus sp. strain 6 and Pseudomonas sp. strain 6K) on aphid population and wheat productivity was evaluated in an aphid susceptible (Pasban-90) and resistant (Inqlab-91) wheat cultivar. The seeds were inoculated with each PGPR strain, separately or the combination of both. The lowest aphid population (2.1 tiller−1), and highest plant height...

Adaptability and Genotype x Environment Interaction of Spring Wheat Cultivars in Chile using Regression Analysis, AMMI, and SRAG Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Castillo,Dalma; Matus,Iván; del Pozo,Alejandro; Madariaga,Ricardo; Mellado,Mario.
Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genetic improvement objectives include obtaining cultivars capable of expressing their maximum potential yield and quality in diverse environments. This make necessary to know and define the environment in which a variety can express its maximum potential yield and quality. The objective of this study was to assess which method is the most efficient to study cultivars response in multiple environments. For this, we analyze the adaptability, stability, and genotype x environment (GxE) interaction effect, grain yield, sedimentation, and wet gluten content of 13 spring wheat cultivars sown in six environments in the central-south and southern zones of Chile during two seasons. The data were analyzed by regression analysis,...
