La técnica de polarización fluorescente para el diagnóstico de Brucella en Chaetophractus villosus ABCL
Kin,Marta Susana; Giménez,Hugo; Fort,Marcelo Cristian.

Efficacy evaluation of some antibiotics against syrian brucella spp isolates, in vitro BJM
Safi,Mazen; Al-Mariri,Ayman.
Brucellosis is an endemic zoonosis in Syria, affecting large numbers of animals and there are an increasing number of cases in humans. The aim of this study is to investigate the in vitro efficacy of various traditional and new antibiotics against89 Brucella isolates (isolated from domestic animals) collected from different Syrian regions. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of seventeen antibiotics were determined. Ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin were the most effective antibiotics, whereas sparfloxacin, levofloxacin, doxycycline and tetracycline had a moderate activity. In contrast, moxifloxacin and rifampicin had a low activity, while streptomycin, spiramycin and cephalosporines were ineffective. As a result, we come to the conclusion that a...

Serology for brucellosis in free-ranging crab-eating foxes (Cerdocyon thous) and brown-nosed coatis (Nasua nasua) from Brazilian Pantanal Ciência Rural
Dorneles,Elaine Maria Seles; Pellegrin,Aiesca Oliveira; Péres,Igor Alexandre Hany Fuzeta Schabib; Mathias,Luis Antônio; Mourão,Guilherme; Bianchi,Rita de Cassia; Olifiers,Natalie; Rocha,Fabiana Lopes; Lage,Andrey Pereira.
A serological survey in free-ranging crab-eating foxes (Canidae: Cerdocyon thous) and brown-nosed coatis (Procyonidae: Nasua nasua) was performed in the Nhecolândia sub-region of the Brazilian Pantanal to evaluate the presence of anti-smooth Brucella antibodies on those wild populations. The detection of anti-smooth Brucella antibodies was performed by the Rose Bengal Test (RBT) as screening test and the Fluorescence Polarization Assay (FPA) as a confirmatory test. The frequency of smooth Brucella seropositive animals were 13.2% (5/38, 95% CI: 4.4% - 28.1%) for crab-eating foxes and 8.8% (3/34, 95% CI: 1.9% -23.7%) for brown-nosed coatis. No association was found between seropositivity for brucellosis and gender or age. The results of this study suggest...

Validation of the multiplex PCR for identification of Brucella spp. Ciência Rural
Orzil,Lívia de Lima; Preis,Ingred Sales; Almeida,Iassudara Garcia de; Souza,Patrícia Gomes de; Soares Filho,Paulo Martins; Jacinto,Fabrício Barcelos; Fonseca Júnior,Antônio Augusto.
ABSTRACT: A multiplex PCR technique for detection of Brucella spp. in samples of bacterial suspension was validated as a complementary tool in the diagnosis of the disease. This technique allows the characterization of the agent without performing biochemical tests, which greatly reduces the time for a final diagnosis, and provides more security for the analyst by reducing the time of exposure to microorganisms. The validation was performed in accordance with the Manual of Diagnostic Tests from OIE (2008) and following the requirements present in the ABNT NBR ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The mPCR validated in this study identified the different species of Brucella ( Brucella abortus , B. suis , B. ovis e B. melitensis ) of bacterial suspension obtained from the...

The genus Brucella and clinical manifestations of brucellosis Ciência Rural
Xavier,Mariana Noyma; Costa,Érica Azevedo; Paixão,Tatiane Alves; Santos,Renato Lima.
Infection with bacteria of the genus Brucella results in major economic and political impact by causing reproductive diseases in a significant number of domestic animal species. Moreover, it has a great social significance, since many species are capable of causing human infection, with severe consequences. Dissemination of knowledge on a specific disease is an essential step for its control. Considering that brucellosis is still the most prevalent zoonosis in the world, information about taxonomy, clinical signs in domestic animals and humans are crucial for attempting to reduce the prevalence of this disease. The recent isolation and characterization of non-classical species of Brucella indicates that a lot remains to be discovered about this genus....
