We aimed to demonstrate the applicability of the entomo-vectoring approach, using as a case study the control of strawberry grey mould Botrytis cinerea, with the biocontrol fungus Gliocladium catenulatum, delivered to strawberry flowers by honey bees. The trial targets cultivations in the open field included four treatments: untreated control, chemical fungicide, entomovectored biocontrol, and chemical + biocontrol combined. The proportion of mouldy berries, and/or the marketable yield of healthy berries was recorded from each treatment, along with other parameters of local interest, and showed the best results in the treatment biocontrol+chemical control, and in the entomovectored biocontrol with respect to untreated control. |

The ploughing of a meadow to a maximum depth of 10 cm to perform a strip-till is a great challenge. At a machine demonstration of FiBL, the performances of six ploughing devices, namely two different plough models, two shallow cultivators and two machines driven by a power takeoff (PTO), were compared. All machines could plough the leys at a maximum depth of 10 cm under the given conditions, but gave different field surface results. The film shows how the presented devices work and how successful they are. The choice of a machine for a specific farm is highly dependent on the prevailing soil conditions, the weed pressure and its crop rotation, and should be carefully considered. |

In diesem Video werden sieben verschiedene Maschinen zum flachen Einarbeiten einer Gründüngung vorgestellt. Zuerst werden vier zapfwellenbetriebene Fräsen gezeigt und anschliessend drei gezogene Geräte. Die Vor- und Nachteile der beiden Gerätetypen werden aufgezeigt. Das Video entstand anlässlich einer Maschinenvorführung Ende September 2018 auf dem Neuhof in Birr/AG. The Norwegian Centre for Organic Agriculture (NORSØK), in collaboration with the Norwegian Agricultural Extension Service (NLR), Debio and the Norwegian Association of Sheep and Goat Farmers (NSG), has written a report to provide practical solutions to meet the requirements of the EU-regulation about a solid lying area for at least 0,75 m2 of 1,5 m2 per sheep and 0,18 m2 of 0,35 m2 per lamb in organic production. An “on-farm” open field research on processing tomato weed control was carried out during 2006 in a conventional farm in the Serchio Valley (Pisa, Central Italy). The aim of the experiment was to test innovative strategies and operative machines for non-chemical (physical) weed control. The innovative strategy was compared with the farm traditional technique. Beräkningar visar att det ekologiska jordbruket i Sverige årligen förbrukar minst 36 000 kubikmater dieselolja vilket knappast kan bedömas som långsiktigt hållbart. I ett kort tidsperspektiv har tre drivmedel (etanol, RME och biogas) under vissa förhållanden potential att göra ett ekologiskt lantbruk självförsörjande på biobaserade drivmedel. På längre sikt (5-20 år) kommer dock ett antal nya tekniker att bli tillgängliga, vilka i systemstudier visat sig ha större möjligheter. Successful grazing when using AMS is possible without having to devote a great deal of time to organize and fetch cows every day. However, a careful strategy and good infrastructure, and observation of cow behaviour and pasture are necessary, and the herd has to adapt to the chosen design and routines. In practice, sectional permanent grazing, part-time grazing and structured rotational grazing have been shown to be successful, in terms of allowing outdoor grazing while still maintaining milking frequency and milk yield. In addition, part-time grazing can be combined with either of the other two systems. |

The objective of this study has been to design a number of farm scenarios representing future plausible and internally consistent organic farming enterprises based on milk, pig, and plant production and use these farm scenarios as the basis for the generation of generalised knowledge on labour and machinery input and costs. Also, an impact analysis and feasibility study of introducing innovative technologies into the organic production system has been invoked. The labour demand for the production farms ranged from 61 to 253hha1 and from 194 to 396hLU1 (LU is livestock units) for work in the animal houses.
