The predominantly anoxic, sulfide-rich sandy sediment of a shallow lagoon at Kiel Fjord was densely inhabited by the polychaete worm Nereis diversicolor (280 cm super(3) m super(-2) of biomass volume). Burrow walls which contrasted by their brown coloration of at least 1.5 mm thickness with the bulk of the reduced black sediment, made up for 6% of the total volume of the 10 cm cores investigated. Only the uppermost mm of the internal surface layer contained detectable O sub(2). Soft-sediment ichnotaxa from the Cenozoic White Limestone Group, Jamaica, West Indies Naturalis

Jamaica, the third largest of the Greater Antillean islands, exposes various lithological units that are dominated by Cenozoic carbonate rocks including those of the mid-Cenozoic White Limestone Group. This Group is comprised of six formations, the Troy, Swanswick, Somerset, Moneague, Montpelier and Pelleu Island formations. An uncommon but moderately diverse, poorly to moderately preserved softsediment ichnofauna is described herein from several of these, namely the Moneague, Montpelier and Pelleu Island formations, which have yielded 15 ichnogenera represented by 27 ichnospecies. Microhabitat use by Cnemidophorus vacariensis Feltrim & Lema, 2000 as studied between October 2006 and September 2007 in two rocky formations in the municipality of Bom Jesus. The area was searched randomly between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and the microhabitat used by the lizards was recorded. Our observations revealed that C. vacariensis has terrestrial habits and prefers open areas. Burrows are the main microhabitat used by the species (56.38%). When in activity, 54.76% of the individuals were observed under rocks, and 38.1% on the ground where herbaceous vegetation was present. Differentiation and characterization of burrows of two species of armadillos in the Brazilian Cerrado RChHN

BACKGROUND: Signs left by some mammals such as tracks, trails, burrows, scratches, feces, hair, and others can be an important tool for species identification. This study was conducted in the Itirapina Ecological Station, in the southern Brazilian Cerrado, whose main objectives were to (1) compare the burrow morphometric variables of Cabassous unicinctus and Euphractus sexcinctus and (2) check for differences in the occurrence of foraging burrows in two different environments: areas with vegetation (shrubby grassland) and areas without vegetation (roads).
