The La Laja Formation lies exposed almost continuously along the western margin of two hill ranges, i.e., the Sierra Chica de Zonda and Sierra de Villicum. This limestone unit bears a remarkable fauna of Cambrian trilobites. In this work we analyse the Delamaran trilobite fauna from the upper part of the El Estero Member and the lower third of the Soldano Member of the La Laja Formation. Taxa described are Glossopleura walcotti Poulsen, Glossopleura lodensis (Clark), Fieldaspis sp., and Prozacanthoides zondaensis n. sp. The Poliella denticulata, Mexicella mexicana?, and Glossopleura walcotti Zones are documented; these had been previously included in a hiatus. Trilobites-based correlations are established between the La Laja Formation and olistoliths of... |

This work presents a study of selected outcrops from the Pedra das Torrinhas Formation of the Guaritas Group (Cambrian, Camaquã Basin), near the basin bordering Encantadas Fault Zone. The studied succession includes alluvial fan deposits that pass laterally into eolian deposits. Sedimentary facies and architectural element analysis were performed, followed by sedimentary petrography and microscopic porosity analysis, aiming to characterize the porosity of the deposits and its spatial distribution. The main objective was to contribute to a better understanding of the porosity spatial distribution in depositional systems characterized by the interaction between alluvial and eolian processes, with special reference to deposits formed prior to the development... |

An analysis of duplomere (= segment) distribution within the cephalon, thorax, and pygidium of Cambrian trilobites was undertaken to determine if the Arthropod Pattern Theory (APT) proposed by Schram & Emerson (1991) applies to Cambrian trilobites. The boundary of the cephalon/thorax occurs within the predicted duplomere node 1 (duplomeres 4 or 6). The boundary between the thorax and pygidium generally occurs within node 2 (duplomeres 11—13) and node 3 (duplomeres 18—20) for corynexochids and ptychopariids, respectively. This boundary occurs within field 4 (duplomeres 21—n) for olenellids and redlichiids. The termination of the body generally occurs within node 3 for corynexochids and within field 4 for olenellids, redlichiids, and ptychopariids. In... |
