Unravelling Colletotrichum species associated with Camellia: employing ApMat and GS loci to resolve species in the C. gloeosporioides complex Naturalis
Liu, F.; Weir, B.S.; Damm, U.; Crous, P.W.; Wang, Y.; Liu, B.; Wang, M.; Zhang, M.; Cai, L..
"We investigated the phylogenetic diversity of 144 Colletotrichum isolates associated with symptomatic and asymptomatic tissues of Camellia sinensis and other Camellia spp. from seven provinces in China (Fujian, Guizhou, Henan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Zhejiang), and seven isolates obtained from other countries, including Indonesia, UK, and the USA. Based on multi-locus (ACT, ApMat, CAL, GAPDH, GS, ITS, TUB2) phylogenetic analyses and phenotypic characters, 11 species were distinguished, including nine well-characterised species (C. alienum, C. boninense, C. camelliae, C. cliviae, C. fioriniae, C. fructicola, C. gloeosporioides, C. karstii, C. siamense), and two novel species (C. henanense and C. jiangxiense). Of these, C. camelliae proved to be the...

Semi-lethal high temperature and heat tolerance of eight Camellia species Phyton
He,XY; Ye,H; Ma,JL; Zhang,RQ; Chen,GC; Xia,YY.
Annual leaf segments of eight Camellia species were used to study the heat tolerance by an electrical conductivity method, in combination with a Logistic equation to ascertain the semi-lethal high temperature by fitting the cell injury rate curve. Te relationship between the processing temperature and the cell injury rate in Camellia showed a typical "S" shaped curve, following the Logistic model. Te correlation coeficient was above 0.95. Te semi-lethal high temperature LT50 of the eight Camellia species, determined by the infection point on the curve, varied from 50 to 57 LT50 / °C, following the descending order: Camellia oleifera > C. japonica > C. polyodonta > C. semiserrata > C. nitidissima > C. gigantocarpa > C. nanyongensis > C....

Molluscicidal effects of saponin-rich plant extracts on the grey field slug Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
González-Cruz,Diego; San Martín,Ricardo.
D. Gonzalez-Cruz, and R. San Martin. 2013. Molluscicidal effects of saponin-rich plant extracts on the grey field slug. Cien. Inv. Agr. 40(2): 341-349. Slug control is a major concern in crop fields because these mollusks consume and damage plants that are destined for human consumption and ornamentation. The grey field slug Deroceras reticulatum (Müller, 1774) is one of the most commonly occurring mollusks with agronomic importance, consuming up to 80% of the leaf surface of raps and other crops. The major difficulty in slug control is that the main products used for this purpose can also endanger non-target animals, such as pets and birds. New methods of control that are naturally based and environmental friendly are urgently required, both for the...
