| O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o efeito da sazonalidade hídrica sobre a composição e a estrutura de um campo inundável. Foram utilizadas 30 parcelas (armações de 0,5 m×0,5 m) para as coletas de cada período (chuvoso e estiagem), onde estimou-se o grau de cobertura das espécies. Calculou-se alguns parâmetros fitossociológicos, índices de diversidade e similaridade entre os dois períodos. Foram amostradas 48 espécies, em 35 gêneros, distribuídos em 20 famílias. As famílias com o maior número de espécies foram Cyperaceae (10), Poaceae (seis) e Euphorbiaceae (cinco). As terófitas destacaram-se com 41,02% e hemicriptófitas com 23,08%. | ABSTRACT A taxonomic synopsis of Cypella (Iridaceae) in Brazil is presented with recognition of 16 species, two of them represented by two subspecies. An identification key to the taxa is provided and species are described and illustrated. New synonyms are indicated, and eight lectotypes, two epitypes and one neotype are designated. Results include distribution, habitat, phenology, conservation status, notes and examined specimens of all taxa, as well as comments on dubious and misused names. The resulting framework revealed that most of the Brazilian species of Cypella occur in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and in the Pampa Biome, although Río de la Plata grasslands (RPG) is the most species-rich biogeographic unit of the genus. |

| ABSTRACT The natural vegetation of Southern Brazil's coastal region includes grasslands formations that are poorly considered in conservation policy, due to the lack of knowledge about these systems. This study reports results from a regional-scale survey of coastal grasslands vegetation along a 536 km gradient on southern Brazil. We sampled 16 sites along the coastal plain with 15 plots (1 m²) per site. All sites were grazed by cattle. We estimated plant species cover, vegetation height, percentage of bare soil, litter and manure, and classified species according to their growth forms. | In the Río de la Plata grasslands (RPG) biogeographical region of South America, agricultural activities have undergone important changes during the last 15–18 years because of technological improvements and new national and international market conditions. We characterized changes in the landscape structure between 1985–1989 and 2002–2004 for eight pilot areas distributed across the main regional environmental gradients. | RESUMO A corruíra-do-campo Cistothorus platensis (Latham, 1790) apresenta ampla distribuição geográfica, ocorrendo ao longo de todo o continente americano. Informações sobre sua biologia têm sido obtidas principalmente em regiões temperadas, e o conhecimento sobre suas áreas de vida em campos tropicais é inexistente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar as áreas de vida de C. platensis no Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros, Cerrado do Brasil central. | A floristic and structural survey of a natural grassland community was conducted on Morro do Osso, a granitic hill in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. Structural data were surveyed in 39 one square meter plots placed over two major grassland areas. An accidental fire has occurred in one of the areas approximately one year prior to our survey, leading to further analysis of parameters differences between sites. The floristic list contains 282 species, whereas the structural survey has found 161 species. Families with highest accumulated importance values were Poaceae, Asteraceae and Fabaceae. | Hesperiidae (Lepidoptera, Hesperioidea) de Ponta Grossa, Paraná, Brazil: 70 anos de registros com especial referência à composição faunística do Parque Estadual de Vila Velha. O município de Ponta Grossa se destaca por apresentar originalmente uma paisagem peculiar onde capões isolados de Floresta Ombrófila Mista são interligados por grandes extensões de fitofisionomias estépicas, também denominadas campos. | Grazing and fire, used in pasture regeneration practices, are inter-related activities in livestock management. Both activities affect habitat characteristics by changing the structure of the herbaceous and shrubby vegetation, reducing their biomass and litter cover. This study evaluated the effect of fire and livestock grazing on the assemblage of non-flying small mammals in grassland-Araucaria forest ecotones in southern Brazil.
