Description of a new species of Pareiorhaphis (Loricariidae: Neoplecostominae) from the rio Jequitinhonha basin, Minas Gerais, eastern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Pereira,Edson H. L.; Pessali,Tiago C.; Andrade,Francisco de; Reis,Roberto E..
ABSTRACT A new species of the loricariid genus Pareiorhaphis is described based on specimens from several tributaries of the upper and middle rio Jequitinhonha basin, Minas Gerais State, eastern Brazil. The new species increases the number of known species of Pareiorhaphis to 25 and, at the same time, represents the second member of the subfamily Neoplecostominae reported from the rio Jequitinhonha basin. The new species is diagnosed from all remaining congeners by a putative autapomorphic feature related to the color pattern: a well-defined, dark brown stripe on the median series of lateral plates that extends along the flank from the posterior margin of compound pterotic to the caudal-fin base. The shallow caudal peduncle and the comparatively larger...

A new species of the armored catfish genus Pareiorhaphis Miranda Ribeiro (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the rio Paraguaçu, Bahia State, northeastern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Pereira,Edson H. L.; Zanata,Angela M..
A new armored catfish species of the genus Pareiorhaphis is described from the middle and upper portions of rio Paraguaçu basin, coastal drainage of Bahia State, northeastern Brazil. The new species is readily distinguished from all its congeners by having two putative autapomorphies: (1) skin fold just posterior to each emergent tooth series of dentary formed by a single enlarged, flattened papilla, and (2) the midline of lower lip immediately behind the dentaries with small patch of distinct papillae arranged in a short median bump. In addition, the shallow caudal peduncle and comparatively lower number of teeth in each dentary also distinguishes the new species from all congeners. The new species is also compared to Pareiorhaphis bahianus, the...

A new species of the catfish Neoplecostomus (Loricariidae: Neoplecostominae) from a coastal drainage in southeastern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Cherobim,Arieli Matheus; Lazzarotto,Henrique; Langeani,Francisco.
ABSTRACT A new species of loricariid catfish is described from the rio Perequê-Açú and surrounding basins, Parati, Rio de Janeiro State. The new species has the accessory process of ceratobranchial 1 more slender than the main body of the ceratobranchial, and a very large sesamoid ossification, markedly greater in size than the interhyal. Additionally, the new species presents a distinct dorsal color pattern consisting of a conspicuous horseshoe shaped light blotch with a central dark area posterior to the supraoccipital.

A new species of Hypostomus Lacépède, 1803 (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the upper rio Paraná basin, Southern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Jerep,Fernando C.; Shibatta,Oscar A.; Zawadzki,Cláudio H..
A new species of Hypostomus with large and spaced light roundish spots is described from the upper rio Paraná basin. Hypostomus multidens new species is distinguished from all remaining congeners with light spots on a darker background by two independent characters: the presence of teeth with two symmetrical cusps, and a high tooth number in each dentary (122267, mean 196.8) and premaxilla (115-260, mean 190.8).

A new species of Neoplecostomus Eigenmann & Eigenmann, 1888 (Siluriformes: Loricariidae: Neoplecostominae) from the upper rio Paraná basin Neotropical Ichthyology
Andrade,Breno Neves; Langeani,Francisco.
Neoplecostomus jaguari, a new neoplecostomine, is described based on material from the rio Jaguari, rio Tietê basin, southeastern Brazil. The new species differs from all congeners by having a conspicuous sexual dimorphism: females with 30-38 teeth in the dentary and 30-39 in the premaxilla, and males with 13-18 and 14-20 teeth, respectively (vs. number of teeth in the dentary and premaxilla approximately equivalent in all other species, except for N. langeanii in the premaxilla); females with larger mandibullary width, 18.5-21.6% HL, males 11.8-15.7% HL (vs.mandibullary width in males and females approximately equivalent); females with teeth longer and thin, males with teeth shorter and robust (vs. teeth similar in other species, except for N. langeaniiin...

A new species of the Neoplecostomine catfish Pareiorhaphis (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the Coastal basins of Espírito Santo, eastern Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Pereira,Edson H. L; A,Pablo Lehmann; Reis,Roberto E..
Pareiorhaphis ruschii, new species, is the first neoplecostomine catfish of the genus Pareiorhaphis described based on material from tributaries to the rio Piraquê-Açu and rio Reis Magos, both small coastal drainages in the State of Espírito Santo, eastern Brazil. The new species is promptly diagnosed from all its congeners by features related to the morphology of the lower lip margin, number of preadipose azygous plates, size and shape of the pectoral-fin spine, and caudal-fin skeleton. Additionally, sexual dimorphism of the new species is marked by hypertrophied odontodes on the lateral margins of head slightly directed forward in adult males.
