In spite of its pivotal role in future implementations of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management, current knowledge about tuna habitat preferences remains fragmented and heterogeneous, because it relies mainly on regional or local studies that have used a variety of approaches making them difficult to combine. Therefore in this study we analyse data from six tuna species in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans in order to provide a global, comparative perspective of habitat preferences. These data are longline catch per unit effort from 1958 to2007 for albacore, Atlantic bluefin, southern bluefin, bigeye, yellowfin and skipjack tunas. Both quotient analysis and Generalized Additive Models were used to determine habitat preference with respect to... |

The document presents an overall summary of the fishing activities of the European and assimilated purse seine and bait boat fleets operating in the eastern Atlantic Ocean over the period 1991-2017. We describe the annual changes in fleet technical characteristics (carrying capacity, size), fishing effort (fishing and searching days), extent of fishing grounds, catches and nominal Catch per Unit Effort by species, as well as the average individual weight by species. Maps are also presented indicating the fishing effort distribution in the Atlantic, as well as the spatio-temporal distribution of European and assimilated purse seine catches in 2017 compared to previous years (2010-2016). |

Using the fishing records from the most relevant ports of the Cantabrian and Galician coasts, th history of the anchovy (Engraulis encrasicholus ) fishery in this area is reconstituted. The crisis observed and the variations in the fishing areas throughout the time are analyzed. An estimation of the age classes composition in the catches founded on commercial classification data can be made. The hypothesis of existence of a core population in the Southern part of the Bay of Biscay is presented and that only under certain advantageous condition the expansion of this species throughout all the Cantabrian Sea was possible. |

Whitemouth croaker (Micropogonias furnieri)has a broad distribution along the Atlantic coast of the Americas, from Mexico to the south of the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the southern end of distribution, Argentina and Uruguay catch the species with different commercial fleet types bay or creek, coastal and off-shore and modalities of bottom trawling with doors and paired trawling. Maximum catches of both countries, that reached 60,000 t, were registered between 1995 and 1997. After that period a remarkable decrease was observed, specially in Argentina where catches remained at around 6,000 t over a total of 30,000 t for both countries. The commercial fleet was divided in three categories and the total area of study in three subareas: El Salado,... |

Both mackerel mean biomass and mean fishing effort in Buenos Aires (Argentina) shelf during the period 1990-91/1994-95 were estimated. Those values were 85,792 t and 42,051 minutes, respectively. However, the best economic profit from the fishery (about $15,390,036)($1=U$S1) was estimated to take place at 28,000 minutes. It was observed a waste in fishing effort of the commercial fleet related with sea surface temperatures of 19°C or more. Moreover, adult mackerel find better trophic conditions on the continental shelf (depth 50m), while larvae originated from massive spawning in late November-early December, i.e., during the main fishing season, find their optimum at lower depths. Mackerel shoals enter and leave fishing grounds in a counterclockwise way... |

Pursuant to SAGyP resolution No. 814/93, during August-December 1995, six INIDEP Fishery Observers trips on board of processing vessels of the Argentine fleet were carried out. They represented 256 navigation days, 232 effective fishing days, 725 fishing trawls and 2,245 trawling hours. Data measured on board were compared to those reported in the fishing log corresponding to the same cruise and submitted to the DNPyA by the Skipper. Catches observed and reported differ by 3985,7 t (28.2. ), with a maximum difference of 1,200 t in a single cruise. In the case of trawling hours, an important fluctuation of values was observed and, in two cases, the number of hours declared exceeded those actually performed (111 and 72). In the other four cruises, between 3... |

The statistics provided by the Argentinean Fishing Vessel and the biological data collected by scientist in the last eleven years, allow us to estimate different aspects of the population dynamics of the common hake (Merluccius hubbsi). This work deals with the relative abundance and the maximal sustainable yield of this species, considering the bonaerense stock of the Southewest Atlantic. Analyzing the effective fishing density, concluding remarks can be made. The high catches of 1967 (more than 600.000 tons.)made by the Russian Fleet, affected the fishing density in 1968. Since 1969, the resource recovered the high density level as a consequence of a decrease in the catches and in the fishing effort, but vulnerability of the stock is shown. |

The present report reviews the spiny lobster fishery on the Mahe Plateau for the 2001/2002 fishing season. The monitoring programme, set up in 1992, was continued this season to collect more information on the spiny lobster stock in order to improve and maintain proper management of this resource around the Mahe Plateau. For the 2001/2002 lobster fishing season, a total of 40 licenses were issued namely twenty seven on Mahe, five on Praslin and eight on La Digue. Similar to previous seasons, the most frequently used lobster fishing technique was snorkelling which involved 32 fishing units, whilst only four units used the trap method and one used both snorkelling and trap. For this three-month fishing season, a total of 5.5 tonnes of spiny lobsters were... |

Patagonian smoothhound (Mustelus schmitti) is one of the predominant cartilaginous fishes of the Argentine Sea (SW Atlantic Ocean). It is caught, mainly, in the coastal multispecific fishery with nearly other 30 bony and cartilaginous species. The group is known as ‘variado costero’. In this work the smoothhound abundance indices (CPUE) and standardized efforts for the 1992-2008 period in the area between 34~’S-42~’S were estimated. The General Lineal Model (GLM) and data derived from the argentine commercial fleet were used. Other aspects that could affect estimates and trends of the annual indices were also analyzed. Mean CPUE values estimated with the GLM, considered as annual standardized abundance indices, show an increasing trend as of 2000; the... |
