Seca-da-mangueira: XV. Resistência varietal a dois isolados de Ceratocystis fimbriata 53
Rossetto,Carlos J.; Ribeiro,Ivan J.A.; Igue,Toshio; Gallo,Paulo Boller.

Development of mango wilt in mango cultivars submitted to salt stress 53
Vieccelli,Juliana Cristina; Araujo,Leonardo; Lopes,Ueder Pedro; Siqueira,Dalmo Lopes de; Rodrigues,Fabrício de Ávila.
ABSTRACT Mango wilt, caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata, is one of the most important diseases affecting mango yield worldwide. Salt stress can affect host defense responses against pathogens infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the development of mango wilt in 2 mango cultivars submitted to salt stress. Mango plants from cultivars Tommy Atkins and Ubá, considered to be moderately resistant and resistant to mango wilt, respectively, were grown in plastic pots which contained 20 kg of washed sand and daily irrigated with 3 L of a modified Hoagland solution during 40 days before being submitted to salinization. For this process of salinization, the plants received nutrient solution containing 0, 30, 60, and 90 mmol∙L–1 of sodium chloride (NaCl)...

Alkaloids and phenolics biosynthesis increases mango resistance to infection by Ceratocystis fimbriata 53
Araujo,Leonardo; Bispo,Wilka Messner Silva; Rios,Jonas Alberto; Fernandes,Sergio Antonio; Rodrigues,Fabrício de Ávila.
ABSTRACT Mango wilt, caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata, is one of the most important diseases affecting mango yields in Brazil. Information regarding the biochemical mechanisms involved in mango resistance against C. fimbriata is absent in the literature. Thus, the present study determined and quantified alkaloids and phenolics in the stem tissue of mango plants from Palmer (susceptible) and Ubá (resistant) cultivars. Furthermore, it was examined the effect of these secondary metabolites against C. fimbriata growth in vitro. The high-performance liquid chromatography revealed that the concentration of two alkaloids (theobromine and 7-methylxanthine) and six phenolic compounds (caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, catechin and...

Coffee residues as substrates for aroma production by Ceratocystis fimbriata in solid state fermentation 58
Medeiros,Adriane Bianchi Pedroni; Christen,Pierre; Roussos,Sevastianos; Gern,Juliana Carine; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo.
The ability of two different strains of Ceratocystis fimbriata for fruity aroma production by solid state fermentation (SSF) was tested on coffee pulp and coffee husk complemented with glucose as substrates. Experiments were carried out in 250 mL Erlenmeyer flasks and the experimental conditions were: 70% of initial moisture, 20% of glucose addition and pH 6.0. Aeration was made by passive diffusion through the gauze covering the flasks. Headspace analysis of the culture by gas chromatography (GC) showed that 12 compounds were produced with coffee husk. Maximum total volatiles (TV) concentration was reached after 72 h of culture with coffee husk as substrate (28 µmol.L-1.g-1). Ethyl acetate, ethanol and acetaldehyde were the major compounds produced,...

CERATOCYSTIS WILT IN ‘UBÁ’ AND ‘DURA’ MANGO TREES UNDER WATER DEFICIT 94
SILVA,SAULO DAVID REZENDE DA; SIQUEIRA,DALMO LOPES DE; SALOMÃO,LUIS CARLOS CHAMHUM; CECON,PAULO ROBERTO; ALFENAS,ACELINO COUTO.
ABSTRACT The occurrence of water stress in mango trees grown in orchards located in semi-arid climates in Brazil is frequent. Water stress caused to plants may predispose them to the incidence of fungal diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of water deficit on the incidence and severity of Ceratocystis wilt in mango trees considered resistant. Seedlings of ‘Ubá’ and ‘Dura’ were kept in pots and submitted to different water stress levels and inoculated with Ceratocystis fimbriata isolate (CEBS15). Mortality was low in ‘Ubá’ plants and high in ‘Dura’ plants. ‘Ubá’ plants showed lower severity and lesion length. In ‘Ubá’ plants, water deficit influenced the increase in lesion length. ‘Dura’ plants showed greater severity and lesion...

FRUITY AROMA PRODUCTION BY Ceratocystis fimbriata IN SOLID CULTURES FROM AGRO-INDUSTRIAL WASTES 59
Bramorski,Adriana; Soccol,Carlos R.; Christen,Pierre; Revah,Sergio.
Solid state fermentations were carried out to test the efficacy of Ceratocystis fimbriata to grow on different agro-industrial substrates and aroma production. Seven media were prepared using cassava bagasse, apple pomace, amaranth and soya bean. All the media supported fungal growth. While amaranth medium produced pineapple aroma, media containing cassava bagasse, apple pomace and soya bean produced a strong fruity aroma. The aroma production was growth dependent and the maximum aroma intensity was detected a few hours before or after the maximum respirometric activity. Sixteen compounds were separated by gas cromatography of the components present in the headspace and fifteen of them were identified as acid (1), alcohols (6), aldehyde (1), ketones (2)...

Cacau "Jaca" resistente a Ceratocystis fimbriata na região cacaueira da Bahia, Brasil 102
Silva,Stela Dalva V. M.; Paim,Márcia Cristina; Castro,Wildson M..
