The change in chemical compositions and fermentation characteristics of potato pulp with Amylomyces rouxii(APS) during ensiling were compared to those of potato pulp silage without additive (CPS). Amylomyces rouxii was added as a rice malt at the rate of 1% of fresh weight. APS and CPS were ensiled in separate 900 ml silos for 3,5,7,14,28,42 and 70 days. There were no differences in the CP content throughout the ensiling period in both silage. NDF and ADF contents decreased by 5 to 7% for 70 day storage in both silage. The starch content on dry matter basis decreased from 62.0% at day 0 to 52.7% and 54.8% at day 70 in APS and CPS,respectively, and the content of APS was lower than that of CPS from day 14 to 70. The pH of APS was lower (p<0.05) than that...

ABSTRACT The impacts of white-rot fungi on altering wood chemistry have been studied mostly in vitro. However, in vivo approaches may enable better assessment of the nature of interactions between saprotrophic fungi and host tree in nature. Hence, decayed and sound wood samples were collected from a naturally infected tree (Carpinus betulus L.). Fruiting bodies of the white rot fungus Trametes versicolor grown on the same tree were identified using rDNA ITS sequencing. Chemical compositions (cellulose and lignin) of both sound and infected wood were studied. FT-IR spectroscopy was used to collect spectra of decayed and un-decayed wood samples. The results of chemical compositions indicated that T. versicolor reduced cellulose and lignin in similar...

Chemical compositions and termiticidal activities of the heartwood from Calophyllum inophyllum L. Anais da ABC (AABC)
Kadir,Roszaini; Awang,Khairul; Khamaruddin,Zaitihaiza; Soit,Zaini.
Wood extractives from heartwood of Callophylum inophyllum (bintangor) were obtained by shaker method and analyzed for their constituents by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Ten compounds were identified by ethanol (EtOH) solvents, fourteen by methanol (MeOH) and only nine by petroleum ether (PETETHR). Major compounds were contributed by monoterpenes (75.11%, 53.75%) when extracted with EtOH and PETETHR solvents. The anti-termitic assay of the wood extracts was also investigated against Coptotermes curvignathus. The level of concentration for anti-termite activity may be an indication of the dose application of the wood extracts for new development of termiticide.
