Pharmacological perspectives from Brazilian Salvia officinalis (Lamiaceae): antioxidant, and antitumor in mammalian cells Anais da ABC (AABC)
GARCIA,CHARLENE S.C.; MENTI,CAROLINE; LAMBERT,ANA PAULA F.; BARCELLOS,THIAGO; MOURA,SIDNEI; CALLONI,CAROLINE; BRANCO,CÁTIA S.; SALVADOR,MIRIAN; ROESCH-ELY,MARIANA; HENRIQUES,JOÃO A.P..
ABSTRACT Salvia officinalis (Lamiaceae) has been used in south of Brazil as a diary homemade, in food condiment and tea-beverage used for the treatment of several disorders. The objective of this study was to characterize chemical compounds in the hydroalcoholic (ExtHS) and aqueous (ExtAS) extract from Salvia officinalis (L.) by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and by high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-QTOF MS/MS), evaluate in vitro ability to scavenge the free radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS•+), catalase (CAT-like) and superoxide dismutase (SOD-like) activity, moreover cytotoxic by MTT assay, alterations on cell morphology by giemsa and...

Antimicrobial effectiveness of spices: an approach for use in food conservation systems BABT
Souza,Evandro Leite de; Stamford,Tânia Lúcia Montenegro; Lima,Edeltrudes de Oliveira; Trajano,Vinícius Nogueira; Barbosa Filho,José Maria.
There has been constant an increasing the search alternative and efficient compounds for food conservation, aiming a partial or total replacement of antimicrobial chemical additives. Spices offer a promising alternative for food safety. Inhibitory activity of spices and derivatives on the growth of bacteria, yeasts, fungi and microbial toxins synthesis has been well reported, so they could be used in food conservation as main or as adjuvant antimicrobial compounds in order to assure the production of microbiologically stable foods.

Marine sponges as a source of new bioactive substances OceanDocs
Regalado, E.L.; Laguna, A.; Martínez, J.R..

Contribution to the phytochemical study and biological activity of plants of Cuban flora OceanDocs
Nogueiras, C.; Spengler, I.; Guerra, J.O.; Ortiz, Y.; Torres, S.; García, T.H.; Romeu, C.R.; Regalado, E.L.; González, T.A.; Perera, W.H.; Lacret, R..
Interest in natural products as a source for innovation in drug discovery and agrochemicals is still growing worldwide. Natural products, whose immense diversity has been appreciated for many years, may become in a rich source of novel chemical structures. Our country is a rich source of both biological and chemical diversity which may be useful as a source of novel chemical structures. Even when natural products have been used as medicinal agents for many years in Cuba, their use as agrochemicals are still limited. Thus, the present review focuses on recent advances in the studies on natural products performed by the “Centro de Estudios de Productos Naturales, CEPN” during the past ten years, highlighting on those with potential use as biomedical...
