ABSTRACT The recovery of waste from the broiler production chain (BPC) is consistent with the principles of a circular economy. Besides turning waste into organic compost, its use as substrate for the production of vegetable seedlings further increases its economic value. However, it is necessary to adapt its characteristics to enable its use as substrate. To this end, the addition of boiler remnant charcoal wastes (BCW), another type of waste generated in the BPC, to the organic compost resulting from the composting of BPC waste with different bulking agents (BAs) was studied. The addition of BCW to agro-industrial compost reduced the electrical conductivity (EC) of substrates. Multiple linear regression showed that, of the 13 variables (physical,... |

This paper identifies knowledge gaps on the sustainability and impacts of plastics and presents some recommendations from an expert group that met at a special seminar organised by the European Commission at the end of 2018. The benefits of plastics in society are unquestionable, but there is an urgent need to better manage their value chain. The recently adopted European Strategy for Plastics stressed the need to tackle the challenges related to plastics with a focus on plastic litter including microplastics. Microplastics have been detected mainly in the marine environment, but also in freshwater, soil and air. Based on today’s knowledge they may also be present in food products. Although nanoplastics have not yet been detected, it can be assumed that... |

Existing foundation and development opportunities of regional circular economy are elaborated. The first is gradual establishment and perfection of relevant laws and regulations and policy systems. The second is establishment of technical standard for circular economy and implementation of development model. The third is scientific and technical innovation prodding technical support for circular economy. The fourth is opportunity of green development in international environmental and economic situations. And the fifth is leap-style development supported by solid foundation. Then, Anhui Province is taken as an example to analyze challenges faced by circular economy. The challenges include increase of resource restriction and environment pressure;... |

Firstly, it is pointed out that circular economy should be vigorously developed in the Nansi Lake Drainage Area, and the connotation of circular economy is expounded. Then, problems in developing circular economy in Nansi Lake Drainage Area are analyzed from the aspects of agriculture, industrial enterprises, and waste utilization. Finally, combining with the four modes of peasant household, enterprise, region and society in the development of circular economy, corresponding countermeasures are put forward for the circular economy in Nansi Lake Drainage Area, such as establishing the government guidance mechanism for big agriculture circular economy in Nansi Lake Drainage Area, constructing incentive systems for industrial enterprises adopting circular... |

The connotation and development of circular economy and circular agriculture are illustrated from the perspective of circular economy. Take the duplicable Sino-Singapore Eco-City in Tianjin as a case to analyze the background, significance and features of building Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and point out the sustainable developmental orientation of the “three harmony and three capabilities” as well as its inspiration on the development of Tianjin urban agriculture from the aspects of water-saving, land-saving and energy-saving. Under the direction of circular economy theory, the enhancement of economical utilization of agricultural resources and resource utilization of agricultural wastes has positive effects on improving urban environment:... |

This paper gives a general overview of rationale of tropical agricultural circular economy. On me basis of ecological economic theory, circular economy is a new model of economic development which aims at realizing reducing of resources use, reuse of products and recycling of wastes, conforming to the principle of 4R. It is to make economic system melt into me process of cycle of material of natural ecological system harmoniously. This paper introduces the advantages of developing tropical agriculture in Hainan Province, the main problems existing in the development and mo main models of sustainable tropical agricultural development in Hainan Province at present. 9 typical models of tropical agriculture circular economy in Hainan Province are listed in... |

Taking Huaian as an example, the rural economic and environmental problems in economically underdeveloped areas are expounded. The results show that rural areas in economically underdeveloped areas confront with lagged economic development, serious environmental pollution and scarce shortage of equipments for treating environmental pollution. The causes of these economic and environmental problems are analyzed, including inadequate fiscal support from the local government; unscientific system for assessing government officers’ performances; backward ideas in environmental protection and imperfect laws and regulations on environmental protection. Based on these causes, the strategy of employing the circular economy to promote the coordinated development of... |
