Comparative morphological study and phylogeny of representatives of the superfamily Calyptraeoidea (including Hipponicoidea) (Mollusca, Caenogastropoda) Biota Neotropica
Simone,Luiz Ricardo L..
With the objective of testing the monophyly of the Calyptraeoidea and of searching for its ground plan, a detailed morpho-logical analysis was conducted for the following species: a) Family Calyptraeidae, 1) Bostrycapulus aculeatus (Gmelin) (formerly Crepidula); 2) Crepidula aff. plana Say; 3) C. protea Orbigny (these from Brazil); 4) C. aff. protea (from Argentina) (published elsewhere); 5) C. convexa Say (from Venezuela); 6) C. fornicata (L.) (from Europe); 7) Calyptraea centralis (Conrad) (from Brazil); 8) Crucibulum auricula (Gmelin) (from Venezuela); 9) Cr. quiriquinae (Lesson) (from Chile); 10) Trochita trochiformis (Born) (from Chile); 11) Sigapatella calyptraeformis (Lam.) (from New Zealand, formerly Calyptraea); b) Family Hipponicidae, 12)...

Materials for a more stable subdivision of the genus Uca Leach Naturalis
Beinlich, B.; Hagen, H.O. von.
The debate on a proper subdivision of the large genus Uca was initiated by the conflicting proposals of Bott (1973) and Crane (1975). In spite of recent computer-aided mending attempts, the overall situation (instability of Uca systematics and nomenclature) has not convincingly improved. Here we try to settle the debate by presenting a simple cladistic analysis sensu Hennig (1950) based on selected morphological characters supplemented by functional remarks and a few behavioural data resulting from fieldwork. All 94 species (except six) were examined, mostly by using the authors’ collection of Uca (partly in Marburg and partly deposited in the Leiden Museum) and all species (see list in chapter 5) are assigned to one of the eight subgenera recognized:...

A new spelaeogriphacean (Crustacea: Peracarida) from the Upper Jurassic of China Naturalis
Yan-bin, Shen; Taylor, Rod S.; Schram, Frederick R..
A new monotypic genus of Spelaeogriphacea is described from the Upper Jurassic of Liaoning Province, north-east China. This new genus and species brings the number of known spelaeogriphacean taxa to four, the others being two recent forms from Brazil and South Africa, and one from the Carboniferous of eastern Canada. The new Chinese form is morphologically (and phylogenetically) very similar to the recent spelaeogriphaceans, suggesting that the body plan seen in the recent Spelaeogriphacea was achieved relatively early in the history of the group. A cladistic analysis of this and several other peracaridan orders indicates that the Spelaeogriphacea may be a paraphyletic group. This suggests that much work remains to be done with respect to the taxonomy and...

Doryctorgilus gen. nov. and other new taxa, with a study of the internal microsculpture of the ovipositor in the subfamily Orgilinae Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) Naturalis
Braet, Y.; Achterberg, C. van.
One new monotypic genus of the subfamily Orgilinae Ashmead, 1900 (type species: D. morvanae spec. nov.), two new species of the genus Podorgilus van Achterberg, 1994 (P. nemorensis spec. nov. and P. luteus spec. nov.) and one new species of the genus Agathis Latreille, 1804 (A. depressifrons spec. nov.) are described. The internal microsculpture of the ovipositor in several genera of the subfamily Orgilinae has been examined and revealed several new features with a potentially high phylogenetic value. A cladistic analysis has been performed with some of these new character-states which corroborate the recognition of the tribe Mimagathidini Enderlein, 1905 (excluding the subtribe Mesocoelina Viereck, 1918), and support the division of this subfamily into...

Systematics of the North American subterranean amphipod genus Bactrurus (Crangonyctidae) Naturalis
Koenemann, Stefan; Holsinger, John R..
Bactrurus Hay is a relatively small generic group that inhabits caves and related groundwater habitats in parts of eastern and central USA. Two field trips, conducted in the spring of 1999, yielded important new locality records that give us a better knowledge of the distribution of the genus. The examination of fresh samples as well as older collection material has resulted in descriptions of four new species. Based on these descriptions and redescriptions of three previously known species, the taxonomy of the genus is revised. In addition, a phylogenetic analysis using morphological data is employed to examine the relationship of Bactrurus to 12 selected crangonyctid taxa, including its potential sister genus Stygobromus Cope. Five epigean and hypogean...

Comparative studies in Chelicerata : I. The Cryptognomae (Ricinulei, Architarbi and Anactinotrichida) Naturalis
Hammen, L. van der.
A comparative study is made of three groups of Chelicerata: Ricinulei, Architarbi and Anactinotrichid mites. Ricinulid terminology is revised, and a partly new interpretation of Ricinulid structure is given. Models are prepared of the evolution of Cryptognomic characters. Classification of the three groups is based on a cladistic analysis.

Análise cladística de Euprepina Hull (Diptera, Bombyliidae, Bombyliinae) Zoologia
Lamas,Carlos José Einicker; Couri,Márcia Souto.
A cladistic analysis of Euprepina Hull, 1971 (Diptera, Bombyliidae, Bombyliinae), a Neotropical genus that includes ten species, was made. The cladogram was obtained from eight studied species, based on a data matrix with 21 characters, using the program Hennig86. Character states were polarized following outgroup analysis, and an hypothetical ancestor was included in the analysis in order to root the tree. The options used, "ie*" and "xs w", resulted in four most parsimonious trees with ci = 79, ri = 80 and length 115. The monophiletism of Euprepina was supported by two synapomorphies.

Creão-Duarte,Antônio José; Sakakibara,Albino M..
Phylogeny for 23 Membracinae genera based on cladistic methodology is proposed. Five Hypsoprorini, two Aconophorini and sixteen Membracini genera were studicd. The Hoplophorionini genera were also analysed.
