New records of Parvalona parva (Crustacea: Anomopoda: Chydoridae) from Brazil, with first description of the male Rev. Bras. Zool.
Elmoor-Loureiro,Lourdes M.A.; Santos-Wisniewski,Maria J. dos; Rocha,Odete.
The Neotropical species Parvalona parva (Daday, 1905) was previously reported only from two localities (Northern Argentina and Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil). In the present paper, seven new records of P. parva from Brazil are presented. The specimens were collected from small waterbodies located in the Federal District and the states of São Paulo, Pará, and Pernambuco. These new records suggest that this species is not as rare as previously believed. The male, sexual female, and the lateral head pores of parthenogenetic females are described and illustrated for the first time.

Two practical approaches to monitoring the zooplanktonic community at Lago Grande do Curuai, Pará, Brazil Acta Amazonica
GOMES,Leonardo Fernandes; VIEIRA,Ludgero Cardoso Galli; BONNET,Marie Paule.
The use of substitute groups in biomonitoring programs has been proposed to minimize the high financial costs and time for samples processing. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the correlation between (i) the spatial distribution among the major zooplankton groups (cladocerans, copepods, rotifers, and testaceans protozoa), (ii) the data of density and presence/absence of species, and (iii) the data of species, genera, and families from samples collected in the Lago Grande do Curuai, Pará, Brazil. A total of 55 sample of the zooplanktonic community was collected, with 28 samples obtained in March and 27 in September, 2013. The agreement between the different sets of data was assessed using Mantel and Procrustes tests. Our results indicated high...

First record of the endemic phytophilous cladoceran Celsinotum candango Sinev & Elmoor-Loureiro, 2010, in Minas Gerais state, in a threatened shallow lake at Serra do Gandarela Biota Neotropica
Moreira,Francisco Wagner; Dias,Emerson Silva; Sant'Anna,Eneida Maria Eskinazi.
This study describes the occurrence of the phytophilous cladoceran Celsinotum candango, which has been considered, up to now, an endemic species of the Brazilian Cerrado, with only two previous records in the wetlands of Brasilia, Federal District. The cladoceran has now been registered at Coutos Lake (“Lagoa dos Coutos”), an altitudinal, temporary shallow lake, located in ironstone outcrops at Serra do Gandarela, Minas Gerais state. This mountain ridge was recently turned into an integral protection conservation unit, the Gandarela National Park. However, many shallow lakes, including this one, were excluded from the delimited area of the park, and are now at risk of disappearing due to expansion of mining activities. The information provided here reveals...

Length-weight relationships for five cladoceran species in an Amazonian lake BABT
Maia-Barbosa,Paulina Maria; Bozelli,Reinaldo Luiz.
This work shows the length-weight regressions established for the five most frequent and abundant cladoceran species (Bosmina hagmanni, Bosminopsis deitersi, Ceriodaphnia cornuta, Diaphanosoma birgei, and Moina minuta) in two stations at Lake Batata. This lake has received for 10 years very fine bauxite processing tailings, which is responsible for the thick layer over the natural sediment still observed in its western section (impacted station). The individuals were separated into size classes, the dry weight values were determined for each class and were used for establishing weight-length equations. Bosminopsis deitersi and Ceriodaphnia cornuta were the species showing the smallest size in the two sampled areas (0.152 to 0.322 mm) and Diaphanosoma...
