INCREASED ENERGY COGENERATION IN THE SUGAR-ENERGY SECTOR WITH THE USE OF SUGARCANE STRAW, ELECTRIFICATION OF DRIVES, AND HIGH-DRAINAGE ROLLERS IN THE EXTRACTION REA
Santos,Paulo S. B. dos; Ramos,Ricardo A. V..
ABSTRACT The sugar-energy sector stands out in the production of electrical energy in the Brazilian energy matrix. The updating of Law 9,427 allowed increasing the limit of power injected in the transmission or distribution systems of existing projects from 30 to 50 MW, encouraging studies of expansion and/or implementation of new cogeneration projects. This study analyzed technologies to enhance energy cogeneration in a plant that sells about 27 MW of surplus power. For this, were studied the use of straw, electrification of drives by steam turbines, and high-drainage rollers (lotus mill roller), which allows reducing bagasse moisture, increasing its lower calorific value (LCV) and, consequently, electrical energy generation. Mass and energy balances in...

RESIDUAL BIOMASSES IN THE MICRO-REGION OF DOURADOS (MS): ASSESSMENT AND AVAILABILITY FOR ENERGY IN AGRICULTURE THERMAL CONVERSION REA
Silva,Robson L. da; Paula,Isabele O. de; Patelli Júnior,José R.; Torres,Tainara R. C.; Pereira,Thiago V..
ABSTRACT This research presents results of the assessment of solid biofuels (residual biomasses from agricultural crops) in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the period 2007-2012, for energy in agricultural uses. It is pointed out the available quantity, its geographic location at micro and meso regions and energy conversion potential. The methodology is based on a survey on municipal agricultural production of the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (quantity and local availability, per year) followed by determination of the amounts of agricultural assessed residues, and then applying equations from the literature to estimate the amount of energy (J) and power (kW) obtained from the thermal conversion of residual biomasses. Results are...

Analytical methods comparison for soil organic carbon determination in Andean Forest of Sangay National Park-Ecuador Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Cargua Catagña,Franklin Enrique; Rodríguez Llerena,Marco Vinicio; Damián Carrión,Diego Armando; Recalde Moreno,Celso Guillermo; Santillán Lima,Guido Patricio.
Abstract A relationship among total organic carbon content determined by ignition loss (LOI) and DUMAS combustion methods, were perfomed in evergreen Andean eyebrow forest soils, southwestern zone of Sangay National Park- Ecuador, where three conglomerates were established as follows: (C) with five plots (P) with plots of 20 x 20 m. In each plot, five digging trenches and four soil samples were carried out at different depths: 0-10, 10-20, 20-30 and> 30 cm, respectively. It is observed that the amount of total organic carbon obtained by the DUMAS and LOI method (R2 = 0.99) does not differ significantly. However, the DUMAS total organic carbon determination methodology showed greater precision with regard to LOI, thus becoming a good alternative to be...

Energetic use of solid products of pyrolysis technology CIGR Journal
Malatak, Jan.
At the present time there has been a serious question of non-renewable energy resources substitution that is why solved problem has worldwide meaning within high increase of fuels consumption from renewable energy resources. The aim of this paper is definition of other possibilities and limits for energetic utilization of solid biomass modified by pyrolysis technology to biochar.   Analyzed samples are processed into the form of pellets in diameter 8 mm made from rape straw. There is used laboratory pyrolysis unit working on the principle of slow pyrolysis reaction which processes samples at the temperature of 400 °C and taking 220 minutes in reactor filled by nitrogen medium. The experimental part of the work is based on elemental and stoichiometric...

The Effects of Operating Conditions and The Biomass Component on Combustion Efficiency and Emission Performance of a Swirling Fluidized-bed Combustor Fired Using CIGR Journal
UDOMSUP, JANYA.
This work presents a study for biomass possible to bring renewable energy in a swirling fluidized bed combustor (SFBC). The main objective of this experimental work was to study the biomass component and excess air of biomass. Palmyra palm shell, Leucaena (lam.), and Water hyacinth are using as fuel in the tests. Quartz sand of 600-850 µm and static bed height of 20 cm was used as inert bed material. For all of tests, the feed rate was fixed 45 kg/hr. for variable excess air (of 40 60 and 80%). As the experimental results, the temperature profiles in SFBC were obviously seen deviate when tests with higher excess air. In the test run, the highest cellulose (palmyra palm shell) for 80% excess air had CO and NO emissions were found in quite stable level (less...

THERMAL STABILITY OF Pinus oocarpa AND MAIZE COB PARTICLEBOARDS Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Scatolino,Mário Vanoli; Protásio,Thiago de Paula; Mendes,Rafael Farinassi; Mendes,Lourival Marin.
Agricultural waste materials are generated in large quantities in Brazil. These can accumulate and cause serious environmental problems. One of the most commonly generated wastes in the brazilian agricultural culture is the maize cob. Being lignocellulosic in nature, the maize cob can find use as the raw material in the production of particleboards mainly concerned with furniture making. Therefore, studies regarding its thermal stability and fire resistance would be interesting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the combustibility and thermal stability of the particleboards produced from maize cob and Pinus oocarpa wood. The percentages in which maize cob was associated with Pinus oocarpa were 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The panels were produced using...
