New records of annelids from banco de las Ánimas, Colombian Caribbean Boletín de Investigaciones
Coneo-Gómez,Shanly; Sierra-Escrigas,Silvia; Dueñas-Ramírez,Pedro R.; García-Urueña,Rocío.
ABSTRACT The banco de las Ánimas is a poor studied underwater environment with a characteristic reef fauna and an unknown large number of cryptic species. Annelids are one of the most common invertebrate groups in the coral formations of the Colombian Caribbean; these organisms are very abundant and variable in their body shapes (parapodia, setae, and gill structures), which imply a great evolutionary radiation. In order to know the diversity of annelids in the reef ecosystem in the Banco de las Ánimas, four artificial structures (known as autonomous reef monitoring structures) used as fauna collectors were located at a depth of 14 m in the Montículo sector. The first records for the Colombian Caribbean of 23 species of annelids of the families...

INSTALACIÓN Y EVALUACIÓN DE DOS NUEVAS ESTACIONES DE MONITOREO DE ARRECIFES CORALINOS EN EL CARIBE COLOMBIANO Boletín de Investigaciones
Vega-Sequeda,Johanna; Navas-Camacho,Raúl; Gómez-Campo,Kelly; López-Londoño,Tomás.
Two coral reef monitoring sites were installed and assessed following SIMAC protocols at Isla Fuerte and Islas del Rosario, Caribbean coast of Colombia. General cover of algae and corals were similar in all the plots. Disease and bleaching percentages were low (< 7 %), with the exception of the site La Coca where disease occurrence was high (14.57±3.81 and 17.04±2.17 %). Mobile invertebrates of commercial or ecological importance were scarce. A total number of 46 and 76 fish species were registered, highlighting the abundance of commercial families such as Serranidae and Lutjanidae in La Coca. The continuity of the monitoring program and the installation of new sites will provide tools to improve local management strategies and to progressively...
