Evaluation of equine corneal endothelium after exposure to 0.05% brilliant blue - an in vitro study Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Andrade,M.C.C.; Moreno,T.M.; Muccillo,M.S.; Pigatto,J.A.T.; Camilo,E.V..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the immediate effects of 0.05% brilliant blue on corneal endothelium of horses. Thirty-eight corneas of 19 horses, male or female, of different ages were studied. Corneas were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1: Corneal endothelium was covered with 0.3mL of brilliant blue 0.05% for 60 seconds followed by rinsing with a balanced salt solution. Group 2: Corneal endothelium was covered with BSS for 60 seconds. The corneas were excised with an 8mm trephine and prepared to analyze posterior endothelial surface using a light microscope (24 corneas) and a scanning electron microscope (14 corneas). The equine posterior corneal endothelium surface observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy...

Morphology of endothelial cells from different regions of the equine cornea Ciência Rural
Faganello,Cláudia Skilhan; Silva,Vanessa Ruiz Moura da; Andrade,Maria Cristina Caldart de; Carissimi,André Silva; Pigatto,João Antonio Tadeu.
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphology of different regions of the equine cornea using optical microscopy. Both healthy eyes of eight horses, male or female, of different ages were evaluated. Corneas were stained with alizarin red vital dye and subsequently examined and photographed using optical microscopy. Corneal endothelial morphology of central, superior, inferior, temporal and nasal areas was assessed. One hundred endothelial cells from each corneal area were analyzed. The shape of the corneal endothelial cells of each corneal region was analyzed. Statistical data analysis was conducted using the Student's t test. Values of P<0.01 were considered significant. Regarding morphological analysis, no statistically...

Non-contact specular microscopy in aphakic and pseudophakic dogs Ciência Rural
Nagatsuyu,Claudia Emi; Abreu,Priscila Barreto de; Kobashigawa,Karina Kamachi; Conceição,Luciano Fernandes da; Morales,Adriana; Andrade,Alexandre Lima de; Padua,Ivan Ricardo Martinez; Martins,Bianca da Costa; Laus,José Luiz.
Cataract is one of the most common ocular diseases in dogs, and phacoemulsification is considered its treatment of choice. Posterior capsular opacity (PCO) is a frequent complication and may occur weeks or months after the surgery. It is known that intraocular lenses (IOL) used for the correction of post-operative hypermetropia are an adjunctive aid in the prevention of PCOs, mainly the foldable acrylics designs with square and truncated edges. However, IOL placement may result in endothelial cell loss. This study evaluated the morphology and cellularity of the endothelium by non-contact specular microscopy in aphakic and pseudophakic dogs. Endothelial cell density, endothelial cell area, coefficient of variation and hexagonal cells percent were analyzed...
