Characterization of coronary arteries in Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla: Myrmecophagidae) Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Cruvinel,C.A.T.; Cruvinel,T.M.A.; Aires,L.P.N.; Rodrigues,R.F.; Melo,A.P.F..
ABSTRACT Were used twelve (12) adult anteaters (Myrmecophaga tridactyla), adults, 6 (six) males and 6 (six) females, weighing from 20 to 27.32kg from free life. The thoracic cavity was opened until visualization of the whole heart and lungs and later injection of the coronary vessels. The right coronary artery emerged through a single coronary ostium of the aorta, 50%, emitting the intermediate branch and the subsinuous interventricular branch, had a path directed to the subsurface interventricular groove. In the other 50%, the right coronary artery was not present, showing only its branches, intermediate branch and subsurface interventricular branch with emergence of the aorta. Left coronary artery presented, in 83.33%, origin from the aorta in single...

Angiotensin-(1-7) potentiates the coronary vasodilatatory effect of bradykinin in the isolated rat heart BJMBR
Almeida,A.P.; Frábregas,B.C.; Madureira,M.M.; Santos,R.J.S.; Campagnole-Santos,M.J.; Santos,R.A.S..
It has been shown that angiotensin-(1-7) (Ang-(1-7)) infusion potentiates the bradykinin (BK)-induced hypotensive response in conscious rats. The present study was conducted to identify Ang-(1-7)-BK interactions in the isolated rat heart perfused according to the Langendorff technique. Hearts were excised and perfused through the aortic stump under a constant flow with Krebs-Ringer solution and the changes in perfusion pressure and heart contractile force were recorded. Bolus injections of BK (2.5, 5, 10 and 20 ng) produced a dose-dependent hypotensive effect. Ang-(1-7) added to the perfusion solution (2 ng/ml) did not change the perfusion pressure or the contractile force but doubled the hypotensive effect of the lower doses of BK. The BK-potentiating...

Influence of antihypertensive drugs on aortic and coronary effects of Ang-(1-7) in pressure-overloaded rats BJMBR
Nunes,A.D.C.; Souza,A.P.S.; Macedo,L.M.; Alves,P.H.; Pedrino,G.R.; Colugnati,D.B.; Mendes,E.P.; Santos,R.A.S.; Castro,C.H..
This study investigated the influence of antihypertensive drugs, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs), AT1 receptor blockers (ARBs), voltage-gated L-type calcium channel blockers, and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs), on the effects of angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)] on aorta and coronary arteries from pressure-overloaded rats. Pressure overload was induced by abdominal aortic banding (AB). To evaluate the role of antihypertensive drugs on the effect of Ang-(1-7), AB male Wistar rats weighing 250–300 g were treated with vehicle or low doses (5 mg·kg-1·day-1, gavage) of losartan, captopril, amlodipine, or spironolactone. Isolated aortic rings and isolated perfused hearts under constant flow were used to evaluate the effect of...

Ultrastructure Features of Coronary Artery Endothelium in Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus) International Journal of Morphology
Yuan,Guoqiang; Pan,Yawen; Li,Haiyan; Wang,Jianlin.
Vascular endothelium play an essential role in regulating endothelial functions by maintaining normal vascular tone, modulating hemostasis, and preventing thromobogenesis. The aim of present study was to reveal ultrastructure features of coronary artery endothelium in Bactrian Camels by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) technology. The results showed that the endothelial cells distribute along the direction of blood flow. Their morphology and protuberant degree towards luminal surface vary for different parts of the coronary artery. The luminal surface of a.c oronaria sinistra and a. coronaria dextra was covered by impaired and intact endothelium, respectively. Platelets and leukocytes sticking to the endothelium were found.

Anomalous Origin of the Circumflex Branch from the Right Coronary Artery International Journal of Morphology
Bayat,Parvindokht; Masoud,Farhadi; Ghanbari,Ali; Gannnnji-Harsini,Sedigheh.
Coronary anomalies are a group of congenital disorders. Most of the coronary anomalies are asymptomatic and benign but may cause myocardial ischemia and sudden death. Some of them are dangerous if they associate with other heart diseases. One of the congenital coronary anomalies is anomalous origin of the circumflex branch from the right coronary artery that is a rare congenital anomaly. We present a case of a 61-year-old man with history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia. The coronary angiography reveals a circumflex branch from the right coronary artery.

Sexual Differences in the Diameter of Coronary Arteries in an Adult Sri Lankan Population International Journal of Morphology
Ilayperuma,I; Nanayakkara,B. G; Palahepitiya,K. N.
Coronary artery disease is a major cause of human mortality. It is stated that females have worse outcomes than men following myocardial infarction and coronary revascularization. Sexual differences in the coronary artery diameters have also been speculated as one of the reasons for the above outcome. However, because of possible confounding effects, such as the body size and heart weight, it is unclear if there is a true sex-specific effect on coronary arterial size. The present study was undertaken to investigate the sexual differences in the diameter of coronary arteries in a group of adult Sri Lankan population. The diameters of the coronary arteries and their branches were measured at predetermined sites in a total of one hundred and two apparently...

Morphological Analysis of Major Segments of Coronary Artery Occlusion: Importance in Myocardial Revascularization Surgery International Journal of Morphology
Martínez-González,Brenda; Theriot-Girón,María del Carmen; López-Serna,Norberto; Morales-Avalos,Rodolfo; Quiroga-Garza,Alejandro; Reyes-Hernández,Cynthia G; Villanueva-Olivo,Arnulfo; Leyva-Villegas,Jorge I; Soto-Domínguez,Adolfo; de la Fuente-Villarreal,David; Elizondo-Omaña,Rodrigo E; Guzmán-López,Santos.
Revascularization surgery should ensure morphological similarity between the coronary artery and the graft. This is an important factor for its duration and permeability. The aim of this study was to analyze the morphological characteristics and morphometrics of the coronary artery segments with greater occlusion. This was an observational, cross-sectional descriptive study that consisted of two phases. A macroscopic phase in which 11 cadaveric hearts were extracted and coronary dominance and length of the anterior interventricular artery (AIA), the right coronary artery (RCA) and the circumflex artery (CXA) were determined. In the microscopic phase a total of 77 segments of these arteries were obtained and the luminal diameter, wall thickness, and amount...

Origin of the Circumflex Branch of the Coronary Artery: A Case Report International Journal of Morphology
Alves,Nilton.
The left coronary artery usually supplies the circumflex branch which provides several atrial and ventricular branches. During a routine dissection of the coronary artery, we could detect a circumflex branch originating from the right coronary artery. This resulted in an analysis of another 59 hearts without any similar results.

Origin and Development of the Coronary Arteries International Journal of Morphology
Silva-Junior,Geraldo de Oliveira; Miranda,Sandro Wilson da Silva; Mandarim-de-Lacerda,Carlos Alberto.
The formation of the coronary vasculature is a fundamental event in heart development and involves a series of carefully regulated temporal events that include vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. This review focuses the knowledge concerning the formation of the coronary arteries available so far and some molecular mechanisms involved in this process. Understanding coronary embryogenesis is important for interventions regarding adult cardiovascular diseases as well as those necessary to correct heart congenital defects. The insight of the coronary artery development as a result of ingrowth changed the understanding of several congenital coronary artery variations and anomalies described in gross anatomy.
