Changements ontogéniques de la condition larvaire chez une espèce de poisson à reproduction hivernale, le hareng des Downs ArchiMer
Denis, Jeremy.
The larval condition of Downs herring during the critical period was investigated between 2008 and 2015 in the eastern English Channel and Southern Bight of North Sea from data collected during the International Bottom Trawl Survey (IBTS). First, the study of the feeding strategy from gut contents analysis using two complementary approaches (electronical microscopy and measure of fluorescence) revealed a shift in the feeding diet occurring at a larval size of 13 mm. Smaller larvae had an omnivorous and a more diversified diet composed of numerous protist and small zooplanktonic preys whereas bigger larvae had a less diversified diet composed mainly of bigger zooplanktonic prey. Along with the diet shift, combination of four condition indices (ingestion...

The use of morphological and histological features as nutritional condition indices of Pagrus pagrus larvae Neotropical Ichthyology
Diaz,Marina Vera; Arano,María Felisa; Pájaro,Marcelo; Aristizábal,Eddie Oscar; Macchi,Gustavo Javier.
Morphometrical and histological techniques were employed to characterize Pagrus pagrus larvae nutritional condition. Larvae were reared in laboratory under controlled conditions with the main objective of testing whether these methodologies allowed finding differences between larvae from different feeding treatments. Once yolk was consumed (three days after hatching) larvae were assigned to a feeding treatment: starved during the whole experiment; delayed feeding, starved during three days; fed during the entire experiment. Algae (Nannochloropsis oculata) and rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis) were provided to larvae for feed treatments. Larvae were fixed daily; for morphometrical purposes in 5% formaldehyde solution, and in Bouin for histological sections....

Maize yield and rainfall on different spatial and temporal scales in Southern Brazil PAB
Bergamaschi,Homero; Wheeler,Timothy Robert; Challinor,Andrew Juan; Comiran,Flávia; Heckler,Bruna Maria Machado.
This study aimed to establish relationships between maize yield and rainfall on different temporal and spatial scales, in order to provide a basis for crop monitoring and modelling. A 16-year series of maize yield and daily rainfall from 11 municipalities and micro-regions of Rio Grande do Sul State was used. Correlation and regression analyses were used to determine associations between crop yield and rainfall for the entire crop cycle, from tasseling to 30 days after, and from 5 days before tasseling to 40 days after. Close relationships between maize yield and rainfall were found, particularly during the reproductive period (45-day period comprising the flowering and grain filling). Relationships were closer on a regional scale than at smaller scales....

Period of Weed Interference in Guarana Crop Planta Daninha
SOARES,D.O.P.; ALBERTINO,S.M.F.; SOUZA,F.C.P.; SANTOS,A.F.; SILVA,J.F..
ABSTRACT: Guarana is a plant native to the Amazon region that produces the fruit known as guarana. Guarana production is carried out by small farmers and is a source of income for thousands of people in rural and urban areas. The interference caused by the competition between weeds and guarana is an important limiting factor of its production. Despite its economic and social importance, there are few studies on the management of weeds in this species. Thus, this research aimed to study the effects of weed interference on guarana yield in different periods. This study was performed in Maués, AM, in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The experimental design was a randomized block design with eight treatments and four blocks. Treatments consisted of a combination of...

QUALITY OF PROCESSING TOMATO FRUITS IN COMPETITION WITH Solanum americanum Planta Daninha
PORTUGAL,J.; REGO,F.C.; MOREIRA,I.; VIDAL,R.A..
ABSTRACT Five experiments were conducted to evaluate the hypothesis that Solanum americanum density and time of coexistence affect the quality of processing tomato fruit. The tomato crop was established using either the direct drilling or the transplanting technique. The factors evaluated consisted of weed density (from 0 up to 6 plants m-2) and time of weed interference (early bloom stage, full flowering stage, fruit filling, and harvest time). The effects of competition on tomato fruit quality were analysed using a multiple model. Tomato variables evaluated included industrial fruit types (which depended on ripeness and disease infection) and soluble solids level(obrix). Tomato fruit quality is dependent on the factors tested. Under low densities (< 6...
