Biologische teeltsystemen hebben minder stikstof beschikbaar dan de gangbare teelt. Door de mestwetgeving wordt deze beperking de komende jaren nog dwingender. Daarnaast worden door de verandering van het klimaat in onze regio meer extreme weersomstandigheden over een langere periode (vb. warmte, droogte,…) verwacht. Hierdoor wordt de impact van ziekten en plagen mogelijk ook groter. Veredeling en teelttechniek moeten hierop antwoord kunnen bieden om tot robuuste gewassen te komen. In dit project hebben Inagro en PCG vier concrete cases getest. Case 1: Maximale diversiteit in het graanveld met CCP’s Case 2: Aardappelrassen gemengd telen vertraagt Phytophthora-verspreiding Case 3: Stikstof- en waterefficiënte broccoli Case 4: Buitenteelt tomaat

The sketched project examined whether spring cultivation with selection and seed harvest in the same year may increase efficiency in chicory breeding in line with organic farming principles. More than 40 lines were developed from different populations of radicchio and sugarloaf. Spring selection was with restriction positively evaluated. Genotypes are available for organic on-farm breeding in order to improve the range of valuable open pollinating varieties for organic cropping in the midterm.
