Quality Management in Supply Chain Networks - The Case of Poland AgEcon

In this article we suggest that rising quality requirements are key factors for the redesign of food chains. We argue that the food supply proceeds through pyramidalhierarchical strategic networks coordinated by powerful focal firms. These firms choose a quality strategy and employ chain quality management concepts by exerting managerial discretion to achieve the super-ordinate network aims. We introduce and elaborate upon two types of chain quality management: strategic and operative. The theoretical findings have been tested using evidence from the Polish dairy market. Amongst the greatest milk producers all over the world, Brazil stands out due to the low participation of dairy cooperatives in milk handling and commercialization. Several factors may be identified to explain cross-country differences regarding to dairy cooperative market share. This paper discusses aspects related to the organizational structure and strategic behavior of dairy cooperatives in response to the globalization process. Exporting: an avenue for dairy cooperatives AgEcon

One avenue of growth for U.S. dairy cooperatives is exporting. Long- term market development is one ingredient for success in international sales. Given possible trade liberalization, cooperatives should evaluate their position in the global marketplace and develop a plan to ensure growth and stability for members. The first part of this report evaluates world dairy market conditions. It looks at trends in world trade and cost of production and policies of major milk-producing countries.
