En Quintana Roo, el aprovechamiento forestal maderable se ha dirigido tradicional y principalmente a especies de alto valor comercial, tales como Cedrela odorata L. y Swietenia macrophylla King, enfocando los pocos estudios técnicos existentes a dichas especies. Recientemente, también a otras especies se les ha dado valor económico y han adquirido demanda en el mercado, para lo cual se necesitan estudios de repoblación, estructura y diversidad así como de crecimiento en diámetro, que apoyen la toma de decisiones en torno a los tratamientos silvícolas que se deben aplicar. Mortality and diameter growth of lianas in a semideciduous forest fragment in Southeastern Brazil Acta Botanica

This is a 30-month study of mortality rates and diameter growth rates of lianas in a semideciduous forest fragment in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Results are presented for 484 specimens of lianas, of which 103 experienced individual mortality (21.3% of the sampled population). Mortality varied according to class of stem diameter, but did not vary throughout the months of year, or between seasons or years. Mortality rates were higher than those recorded in other studies, perhaps due to the age of this secondary forest. Stem diameter growth rates were measured for 385 lianas, the survivors after 30 months plus four plants that died just before the final census, and averaged 1.2mm/year, ranging from 0mm/year (Chioccoca alba) to 4.8mm/year...

Effect of different pruning intensities on the growth of Acacia nilotica (Kikar) Agrociencia

In many species, natural pruning is never a satisfactory option if production of clear wood is a management objective. Acacia nilotica is well adapted specie to the arid and semiarid climate of Pakistan and plays an important role in rural economy of the country. Traditional pruning is carried out to maximize the amount of clear-wood production but the effect of this practice on tree growth, still unknown. So a preliminary pruning trial was conducted at two different sites, UAF and PARS, in Faisalabad- Pakistan. All pruning treatments resulted in reduction in diameter growth.
