Use of furosemide in bolus and in continuous infusion in dogs and cats: literature review MV&Z
Fiorini, Emiliana Andrades; Siragusi, Rafael Henrique de Souza; Lebre Junior, Eduardo Amaro; Franco, Rodrigo Prevedello.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of finasteride treatment on prostatic and testicular hemodynamic and vascular variables in dogs with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Ten dogs aged between 5 and 13 years were selected and assigned to two experimental groups: dogs with BPH (BPH, n=5), and dogs with BPH treated with finasteride (BPH+F, n=5). Three monthly evaluations were performed (day 0 – onset of finasteride treatment, day 30 and day 60). Testicular and prostatic volumes were measured through mode-B ultrasound; prostatic vascularization score (1-3) was measured with the color Doppler ultrasound; and the hemodynamic profile of the prostatic and testicular arteries was measured with spectral Doppler. A reduction of 35.2% in the prostate...

Influence of renal denervation on blood pressure, sodium and water excretion in acute total obstructive apnea in rats BJMBR
Franquini,J.V.M.; Medeiros,A.R.S.; Andrade,T.U.; Araújo,M.T.M.; Moysés,M.R.; Abreu,G.R.; Vasquez,E.C.; Bissoli,N.S..
Obstructive apnea (OA) can exert significant effects on renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) and hemodynamic parameters. The present study focuses on the modulatory actions of RSNA on OA-induced sodium and water retention. The experiments were performed in renal-denervated rats (D; N = 9), which were compared to sham (S; N = 9) rats. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were assessed via an intrafemoral catheter. A catheter was inserted into the bladder for urinary measurements. OA episodes were induced via occlusion of the catheter inserted into the trachea. After an equilibration period, OA was induced for 20 s every 2 min and the changes in urine, MAP, HR and RSNA were recorded. Renal denervation did not alter resting MAP (S: 113 ± 4 vs...

Acute hypotensive and diuretic activities of Berberis vulgaris root bark aqueous extract in normal rats BJPS
Ahmed,Muhammad; Azmat,Aisha; Khan,Salahuddin.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of intravenous administration of Berberis vulgaris root bark aqueous extract (BRBD) on the cardiovascular and renal functions of healthy normotensive rats. The different doses of BRBD 1, 10 and 20 mg/kg were administered intravenously (i.v) in normal rats. Blood pressure, diuretic activity and serum renal profile were analyzed. Intravenous injection of BRBD at the different doses of 1, 10 and 20 mg/kg showed a dose-dependent reduction in mean arterial blood pressure (P<0.001). At different doses of 1, 10 and 20 mg/kg, the hypotensive effect remained for more than one hour. Single dose administration of BRBD at doses of 10 and 20 mg/kg caused a significant increase in urine output...
