Production of polyclonal antisera to manganese superoxide dismutase expressed in downy mildew resistant pearl millet and its application for immunodiagnosis Electron. J. Biotechnol.

Level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the seedlings of downy mildew resistant pearl millet genotype (IP 18293) increased 3-fold upon inoculation with Sclerospora graminicola. Mn-SOD was purified from pearl millet by ion-exchange and gel filtration chromatography. Polyclonal antibody was raised in rabbit against Mn-SOD of pearl millet. Anti-Mn SOD had an antibody titer of 1:20,000. ELISA results revealed a 1.5-fold increase in pure Mn-SOD preparation compared to the crude preparation. The antibody reactivity as detected by ELISA revealed that Mn-SOD is higher at 4 hrs post-inoculation in resistant pearl millet seedlings. Lettuce is the most consumed leafy vegetable in Brazil. However, its production has faced increasing difficulties mainly due to the infestation of producing areas with Bremia lactucae, the causing agent of downy mildew, the worst disease in lettuce. The aim of this study was to identify B. lactucae races occurring in lettuce producing areas of São Paulo state, during 2008 and 2009. Agentes de controle biológico aplicados no substrato promovem proteção equivalente à pulverização de copa contra o míldio, em casa de vegetação. Infoteca-e

A publicação apresenta resultados de pesquisa relacionados ao controle do míldio, principal doença da viticultura, utilizando o controle biológico como alternativa às estratégias tradicionais de controle da doença, que atualmente são baseadas em calendários de pulverização de produtos sintéticos. Foram avaliados dois agentes de controle biológico (BCA): Bacillus subtilis e Bacillus amyloliquefaciens e a via de aplicação. Os resultados indicam que os agentes administrados no substrato podem conferir proteção parcial da videira ?Cabernet Sauvignon? ao míldio, em casa de vegetação, cujos mecanismos de defesa ainda precisam ser elucidados.

Solar radiation plays an important role in the development of some fungal diseases due to its direct action on the microorganisms and also its indirect effect on the production of specific plant compounds. This experiment examined the effect of two light environments (100% and 35% of full strength) on the polyphenolic content of grapevine leaves and quantified their relation to resistance to downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola).
