In drought condition, plants increase survival chance by adjusting their functional traits and by biological associations. Mycorrhizae association and artificial watering have been shown to increase plant survival under drought, especially at early developmental stages when plants are more susceptible. In Chile, Pinus radiata is the most important forest species. It is grown mainly in Central Chile, where precipitations are predicted to drop in 40% and change in frequency in the future due to climate change. Rhizopogon luteolus is an ectomycorrhizae usually associated with Pinus species and has been found to increase drought tolerance. O presente trabalho foi conduzido, em area de "cordilheira", na parte central da sub-regiao dos Paiaguas, do Pantanal Mato-Grossense. Os solos sao formados por sedimentos arenosos aluviais e na maior parte sao de baixa fertilidade. Entre 1980 e 1985, foram introduzidas e avaliadas 51 gramineas e 105 leguminosas, com o objetivo de identificar forrageiras adaptaveis as condicoes ecologicas da regiao. Para cada cultivar e/ou especies foram utilizadas duas parcelas de 1,5 x 3,0m com adubo (CA) e sem adubo (SA). O rendimento de materia seca de CA foi superior ao de SA apenas no primeiro ano. Em função da profunda diversidade de condições agroecológicas e sócioeconômicas que caracteriza a região semi-árida e da extrema complexidade que envolve a natureza dos fatores responsáveis pela condição de pobreza das comunidades que nela habitam, a concepção de um programa de convivência com a seca requer, antes de tudo, uma visão abrangente na definição do caminho a ser seguido. A bovinocultura de corte, principal atividade economica da sub-regiao da Nhecolandia, do Pantanal, devido, principalmente, a problemas nutricionais, apresenta baixos indices de produtividade. A alimentacao dos bovinos e constituida de pastagens nativas, geralmente de produtividade ou valor nutritivo baixos e de baixa disponiblidade nos meses de cheia. Abstract: The objective of this work was to select alternative rootstocks to 'Rangpur' lime for 'Valência' sweet orange scions in the northern region of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, based on initial fruit yield. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of drought and nitrogen (N) stresses on stomatal conductance of three maize cultivars grown in the field. The stomatal conductance of Sol da Manhã variety (BRS 4157) and Pioneer 6875 hybrid, under drought and high N, was lower than under drought and low N, which indicates drought tolerance, since these cultivars did not exhibit reduction in grain yield by drought, as observed for Amarelão variety, which flowered under more severe drought. 'Sol da Manhã' exhibited shorter anthesis-silking interval under high N than under low N, an additional indication of tolerance. |

Young sexually and assexually propagated Barbados cherry plants were submitted to water deficit (20 days without irrigation). During this period the accumulation of proline, water potential of branches, osmotic potential, the relative water content of leaves, the leaf diffusive resistance, the transpiration rate and leaf temperature in the cuvette were determined. In addition, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) were measured in the porometer cuvette. ABSTRACT In the State of Bahia, Brazil, the citrus industry is located on the north coast with the prevalence of the combination ‘Pera’ sweet orange on ‘Rangpur’ lime. Scion-rootstock diversification may contribute to the increase of yield and the extension of harvest season, as long as to decrease the risk associated to abiotic and biotic stresses. ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate, under field conditions, different combinations between ‘Pera’ sweet orange and eight rootstocks: ‘Rangpur’ lime (RL), ‘Volkamer’ lemon (VL), ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin (CM), ‘Sunki Maravilha’ mandarin (SMM), ‘Indio’ and ‘Riverside’ citrandarins, and VL x RL (‘Rangpur’ lime)-010 and TH-051 hybrids.
