Relationship between composition and organizational levels of nanostructured systems formed by Oleth 10 and PPG-5-Ceteth-20 for potential drug delivery BJPS
Rissi,Nathalia Cristina; Guglielmi,Danila Aparecida Scatolin; Corrêa,Marcos Antônio; Chiavacci,Leila Aparecida.
In this paper, nanostructured systems were developed, with the aid of ternary phase diagrams, from two surfactants, of differing degrees of lipophilicity (PPG-5-Ceteth-20 and the Oleth 10) and two oil phases (oleic acid and isopropyl myristate). It was observed that there were differences between the four resulting phase diagrams in the physical properties of the systems they represent. Thus, due to the capacity of Oleth 10 (as surfactant) and oleic acid (as the oil phase) to reduce interfacial tension, large regions of translucent systems were seen on the diagrams produced by them. By polarized light microscopy, it was possible to identify the isotropic and anisotropic properties of these systems, which were confirmed by small-angle X-ray scattering...

Implants as drug delivery devices for the treatment of eye diseases BJPS
Silva,Gisele Rodrigues da; Fialho,Sílvia Ligório; Siqueira,Rubens Camargo; Jorge,Rodrigo; Cunha Júnior,Armando da Silva.
The treatment of diseases affecting the posterior segment of the eye is limited by the difficulty in transporting effective doses of drugs to the vitreous, retina, and choroid. Topically applied drugs are poorly absorbed due to the low permeability of the external ocular tissues and tearing. The blood-retina barrier limits drug diffusion from the systemic blood to the posterior segment, thus high doses of drug are needed to maintain therapeutic levels. In addition, systemic side effects are common. Intraocular injections could be an alternative, but the fast flowing blood supply in this region, associated with rapid clearance rates, causes drug concentration to quickly fall below therapeutic levels. To obtain therapeutic levels over longer time periods,...

Powder properties of binary mixtures of chloroquine phosphate with lactose and dicalcium phosphate BJPS
Odeniyi,Michael Ayodele; Onyenaka,Collins Chidi; Itiola,Oludele Adelanwa.
A study was conducted on the packing and cohesive properties of chloroquine phosphate in binary mixtures with lactose and dicalcium phosphate powders. The maximum volume reduction due to packing as expressed by the Kawakita constant, a, and the angle of internal flow, θ, were the assessment parameters. The individual powders were characterized for their particle size and shape using an optical microscope. Binary mixtures of various proportions of chloroquine phosphate with lactose and dicalcium phosphate powders were prepared. The bulk and tapped densities, angles of repose and internal flow, as well as compressibility index of the materials were determined using appropriate parameters. The calculated and determined values of maximum volume reduction for...
