Community structure of aquatic insects (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera) in Cerrado streams of Paraguay, Paraná, and São Francisco river basins Biota Neotropica

We evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively the community structure of aquatic insects (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera) in 19 streams in areas of Cerrado in the Paraguay, Paraná, and São Francisco river basins. The number of genera and taxonomic composition were compared at spatial (at the hydrographic basins level) and conservation levels (more preserved and less preserved areas). The influence of spatial and environmental factors in richness and abundance was also evaluated. The geographical distribution of Grumicha, Coryphorus, and Austrotinodes was expanded. Rasgos biológicos de macroinvertebrados de ríos subtropicales: patrones de variación a lo largo de gradientes ambientales espacio-temporales Ecología austral

Los rasgos biológicos reflejan las tácticas de los organismos como respuesta al cambio ambiental. Analizamos la organización funcional del grupo EPT (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera y Trichoptera) en una cuenca subtropical de montaña para evaluar si sus rasgos biológicos están asociados con patrones espacio-temporales de variación ambiental y si la actividad humana modifica la organización funcional de las comunidades. Entre 2005 y 2007 muestreamos 11 ríos durante dos períodos hidrológicos consecutivos, de alto y bajo caudal. Avaliação ambiental do Rio Pandeiros utilizando macroinvertebrados como indicadores de qualidade da água Ecología austral

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as condições ecológicas da bacia do rio Pandeiros com base em métricas das comunidades de invertebrados bentônicos (coletados por meio de Surber), amostradas em 20 pontos de fevereiro, maio, setembro e novembro de 2008 ao longo de uma bacia e as respectivas características limnológicas de cada local. Para isso foram calculadas, levando em consideração como replicas os quatro períodos amostrais (fevereiro, maio, setembro e novembro de 2008), a porcentagem de Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera e Trichoptera (%EPT), o índice de qualidade de água BMWP-CETEC (Biological Monitoring Working Party) e o Protocolo de avaliação rápida. The study of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera associated with litter in southeastern Brazil streams aimed to answer the following questions: 1) Does richness and composition of EPT fauna differ between riffle and pool mesohabitats despite being associated to the same substratum, litter? 2) Does the similarity of the EPT fauna between both mesohabitats change with time? 3) Does the EPT functional feeding structure differ between both mesohabitats (riffles-pools)? Diversity and structure of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera (Insecta) assemblages from riffles in mountain streams of Central Brazil Zoologia

The diversity and structure of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera (EPT) assemblages in streams of Central Brazil (Serra dos Pireneus, Pirenópolis, State of Goiás) was investigated. Abundance data of EPT were obtained in Central-West Brazilian streams in order to evaluate the effect of spatial variability, including the effect of size of the stream and anthropic action, and seasonality (dry and rainy seasons) on faunal diversity and structure. The immatures were collected with circular sieves (0. 5 mm mesh) during one hour at five collection stations over 14 months. Assemblages of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera (EPT) of rocky substrates were studied in two streams of the Intervales State Park. Monthly collections with a Surber sampler (10 random sampling units, 1m²) were carried out from September 1999 to September 2000 and quarterly from December 2000 to September 2001 in the Bocaina and Água Comprida Streams. The EPT fauna in the Bocaina Stream was more diversified and more abundant than in the Água Comprida Stream. The EPT fauna was quite different in the two streams both in composition as in functional aspects. The results of this study indicate that there was not a clear seasonal pattern in the temporal variation of density.
